Before proceeding to the Outside/Unattached Competition Request Form, read and understand the following guidelines per NCAA regulations:

Bylaw 14.7.1: A student-athlete becomes ineligible for intercollegiate competition in his or her sport (other than basketball) if, after enrollment in college and during any year in which the student-athlete is a member of an intercollegiate squad or team, he or she competes or has competed as a member of any outside team in any non collegiate, amateur competition (e.g., tournament play, exhibition games or other activity) during the institution's intercollegiate season in the sport until eligibility is restored by the NCAA Division II Committee on Student-Athlete Reinstatement.

Bylaw 14.7.1.2: In wrestling, a student-athlete may compete outside of the institution’s intercollegiate season as a member of an outside team in any non-scholastic, amateur competition, except during the period between the beginning of the institution’s academic year and November 1.

It is permissible for a student-athlete to participate as an individual during the academic year in the student-athlete's sport as long as they are both athletically and academically eligible for competition and have not received or performed any of the following (if they have, a season of competition will be triggered):
  • Receiving travel expenses;
  • Receiving food or food per diem (this includes "team cooler" items);
  • Receiving free or reduced lodging;
  • Receiving any assistance from the University of Mary coaching staff before, during, or after at the site of competition;
  • Receiving any university-funded athletic training/medical assistance;
  • Receiving free event entry; 
  • Competing in any school-issued attire; and/or
  • Being on the University's class excusal form.

It is permissible for an unattached student-athlete to travel with the team pending compliance approval.  However, the unattached student-athlete is not permitted receive meals from the team even if they reimburse the expense.  They are permitted to eat at the same locations as the rest of the team, but they must finance the bill separately  The same policy goes for housing while traveling.  The unattached student-athletes are permitted to stay at the same hotel as the rest of the team, but the housing arraignments must be made by the student-athlete and they are not permitted to share a room with any attached student-athletes.   The following form must be turned in and payment for the travel portion of the event must be submitted prior to leaving campus.  Failure to comply with these regulations will result in the use of a season of competition.

Copies of any and all receipts must be turned into the compliance office within two business days following return to campus, otherwise a season of competition may be charged.  The form must be turned into compliance AT LEAST 48-hours prior to competition and the outside/unattached competition may not occur until compliance has given official approval via email.
