2023 (Senior)
Earned All-American status after taking fifth in the 2023 NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships… Punched his ticket to Nationals by recording a second-place finish at the NCAA DII Super Regional V… Won the 43rd Midwest Classic… Finished second in the Yellowjacket Open… Took third in the Younes Hospitality Open… Compiled 33-6 record.

2022 (Junior)
Just missed out on earning a trip to Nationals after recording a fifth-place finish at the NCAA DII Super Regional V… Took second in the Copper Open… Finished runner-up in the Younes Hospitality Open 2021… Grabbed a fourth-place finish at the 42nd Midwest Classic… Compiled a 28-11 record.

2021(Junior)
Max put together an impressive season coming off a redshirt year. He compiled an 8-4 record,
only losing to two opponents during the entire season. He qualified for his first NCAA Tournament by
taking 2nd place at the NCAA Super Regional V. He earned Academic All-American Honors by the
National Wrestling Coaches Association and an NSIC All-Academic nod for his effort in the
classroom. Max reeled in multiple UMary End of the Season Awards, Best on Top, Barn Cat Tough
Award, Most Dedicated, and Most Valuable Wrestler.
 
2020 (Sophomore)
Max redshirted and competed at 157lbs. He posted a 5-2 record: placing 2nd at the Jimmie Open and 2nd at the Tyler Plummer Classic. Max earned one major decision and one technical fall this season.

2019 (Freshman)
Max competed at 149 pounds his first season at UMary. He earned a 25-12 record as a freshman starter, with nine pins and two major decisions. Max placed 3rd at the Jimmie Open, 3rd at the DWU Open, 3rd at the UNK Holiday Inn Open, and capped of his freshman season with a 4th place finish at the 2019 NCAA Super Regional V tournament. Max was voted as Male Freshman of the Year at the Marauders Night of Champions and was voted both Freshman of the Year and Best on Top at the UMary Wrestling Banquet.

PRIOR TO UMARY
High School
Max attended De Pere HS in Wisconsin, where he was a four-time team captain, four-time first team all-conference, and a four-time letter winner. Max finished off his 147-win career by wrestling in the 2018 WIAA state finals. Max also competed in wrestling baseball and cross country.
 
Personal
Son of Anne and Kenely Bruss. Max will pursue a degree in Physical Education at the University of Mary.
