Thomas, Dvorak career nights pace Marauders efforts against visiting Bulldogs

BISMARCK, ND – Noah Thomas and Alex Dvorak combined for eight treys and 37 points as both posted career-high scoring nights for the University of Mary men's basketball team in the Marauders 82-70 loss to visiting University of Minnesota Duluth.
 
Thomas drained five triples and scored 19 points as he led the Marauders in scoring. The senior guard was efficient from the field, making 7-of-12 shots overall and 5-of-9 from behind the arc. Thomas also made four steals and dished three assists. His previous scoring best was 17 points.
 
Dvorak established a new career-high for the second straight game. After scoring 15 points Saturday night at Concordia-St. Paul, the Dickinson, ND, native posted 18 points in a return to the McDowell Activity Center. The sophomore guard nailed three triples in the game and made all three free throws.
 
Kelton Coleman added nine points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals in the game. Jackson Ware sank two treys and scored eight points.
 
UMary (5-18 overall, 3-14 Northern Sun), the NSIC leaders in treys made per game, drained 12 shots from behind the arc, two more than their average. UMD (13-10, 9-8 NSIC) made just five treys but connected for nine more free throws and held a 42-31 rebounding edge. The Bulldogs outscored the Marauders 44-24 in the paint.  
 
The Marauders held a lead much of the first half and building a 31-26 lead on a Thomas trey. UMD closed the half on a 20-5 run to lead 48-38 at intermission and remained in front throughout the second half.
 
Noah Paulson led the Bulldogs with 20 points. Matt Thompson added 16.
 
The Marauders wrap up the week by hosting Bemidji State University at 3:30 pm on Saturday, February 7, at the McDowell Activity Center in the penultimate home game of the season for UMary.
