BISMARCK, ND – The University of Mary women's basketball team's comeback fell short in their final regular season game of the season, losing 69-66 to the University of Jamestown in overtime. The Marauders will play in the NSIC quarterfinals against the winner of Southwest Minnesota State/Minnesota Crookston on Sunday, March 1, at 11 am.
UMary (22-9, 15-7 NSIC) shot 25-of-74 (33.8%) from the field and 8-of-33 (24.2%) from three, while UJ went 23-of-66 (34.8%) from the floor and 7-of-23 (30.4%) from behind the arc. The Marauders shot 8-of-10 (80%) from the free-throw line, while the Jimmies went 16-of-20 (60%) from the charity stripe. Both teams recorded 48 rebounds. UMary committed 19 turnovers, and the Jimmies had 16 giveaways.
Allison Undlin recorded her 8th double-double of the season, putting up 15 rebounds and 13 points. Undlin also had six blocks, which ties her season high.
Bergan Kinnebrew had her second straight double-double, posting 14 points and grabbing ten rebounds.
Chloe Pfau stuffed the stat sheet as she put up 13 points, five rebounds, three assists, three steals, and two blocks. In her final home game of her career,
Cassie Erickson dropped nine points and dished out two assists.
Anna Lenzen had eight points and six rebounds off the bench.
Eden Fridley had six points, four assists, four steals, and four rebounds.
Emily Jaenke had a career-high six assists against the Jimmies.
The Marauders opened the game on fire, holding a 31-15 lead at the end of the first quarter. Both teams struggled on offense in the second quarter as UMary went into halftime with a 37-24 lead.
The Marauders continued to struggle on offense in the third quarter as the Jimmies took control of the game. UJ outscored UMary 26-6 to take a 50-43 lead at the end of the third quarter. The Marauders trailed by as much as ten points but rallied back to tie the game up at 60-60 after
Chloe Pfau hit a three with 48 seconds left to send the game into overtime.
The Jimmies would hold a 67-61 lead with 45 seconds left in the game. Two free throws by
Bergan Kinnebrew and a quick three-point play by
Allison Undlin would make it a one-point game with 31 seconds remaining. The Jimmies would miss two free throws, which would give UMary a chance to take the lead. Kinnebrew got a good look at the rim, but the ball rimmed out, and UJ secured the rebound. The Jimmies would hit two free throws, and a
Chloe Pfau three would land short to secure the win for UJ.
