Final Marauders road trip of season tips off in Red River Valley with visits to MSUM, UMC

THIS WEEK
Embarking on the start of a three-game road trip, the University of Mary men's basketball team plays a pair of games in the Red River Valley this week. On Thursday, February 12, the Marauders visit MSU Moorhead for a 7:30 pm game at Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse in Moorhead, MN.
 
UMary then visits the University of Minnesota Crookston on Saturday, February 14. Tipoff between the Marauders and the Golden Eagles is 3:30 pm on the UMC campus in Crookston, MN.

THE RECORDS
UMary enters the week with a record of 5-19 overall, 3-15 in the Northern Sun (15th place) and 3-7 in the NSIC North (7th)… MSU Moorhead is 11-13 overall, 8-10 in the NSIC (T-11th) and 6-4 in the NSIC North (4th)… Minnesota Crookston is 4-20 overall, 2-16 in the NSIC (16th) and 0-10 in the NSIC North (8th).
 
SENIOR AND ALUMNI DAY SET FOR FEBRUARY 21
During the final home game of the season on February 21, the University of Mary men's basketball team will celebrate seniors Cayden Redfield and Noah Thomas for Senior Day and welcome back former men's basketball scholar-athletes on Alumni Day.

LAST WEEK
Facing NSIC North Division teams for the first time since the first Saturday of January, the Marauders dropped a pair of home games… Noah Thomas and Alex Dvorak combined for eight treys and 37 points while setting career-highs in an 82-70 loss to Minnesota Duluth.  Thomas hit five triples and scored 19 points. He also had four steals. Dvorak made three treys and scored 18 points to set a career-best for the second straight game… The Marauders dropped a heartbreaker on Saturday, missing three shots in the paint in the closing seconds of a 74-73 loss to Bemidji State University. Five Marauders scored in double figures: Kelton Coleman (14), Noah Thomas (12), Amare Jackson (12), Jackson Ware (11) and Alex Dvorak (10). Henry Shannon III led BSU with 23 points and 13 rebounds.
 
OPPO RESEARCH
MSU Moorhead is under the direction of 1st year head coach Jason Kemp and is led in scoring by freshman Isa El-Amin. El-Amin averages 14.1 ppg. If his surname sounds familiar his father won an NCAA Division I title at Connecticut. Dominic Goodman adds 12.6 ppg and Sam Hastreiter adds 11 ppg. The Dragons are still alive for an NSIC home playoff game, along with five other teams.
 
Minnesota Crookston is looking for its first win against an NSIC North team, though the Golden Eagles have a pir of victories against South division squads. UMC celebrates senior day on Saturday but freshmen are leading the team with three first year players in the lineup. G Donez Lindsey leads the team in scoring at 14.5 ppg and 6-8 F Spencer Swenson is right behind (13.3 ppg). G Brady Westphal (5.4 ppg) is the third frosh in the lineup.  
 
HISTORY LESSON – UMARY VS. MSU MOORHEAD
The Marauders trail the Dragons 29-18 in the all-time series… UMary's 96-90 win in December snapped a 7-game win streak for MSUM… Since joining the NCAA and NSIC, UMary is 13-26 against MSUM… The Marauder have won six of the last 16 games… The Marauders won the first conference match-up 75-72 at MSUM on January 16, 2007… The Dragons followed with five straight wins, including an overtime victory, one win by one point and another by two points… The Marauders snapped the Dragons streak 74-58 at home on Jan. 30, 2010, the first of five straight UMary wins that concluded with a 72-51 win over 19th ranked MSUM on Jan. 7, 2012, at the MAC… The Marauders snapped an 8-game losing streak to the Dragons with a 77-73 upset win at 3rd ranked MSUM on January 8, 2016… Wylee Delorme tied the UMary freshman single game scoring mark with 32 points at MSUM in February 2025, equaling the mark by Eric Erdmann in December 2006…   LAST UMARY WIN/LAST UMARY HOME WIN / LAST MEETING The Marauders defeated the visiting Dragons December 13, 2025. UMary grabber a lead early in the first quarter and held off a late challenge. Cayden Redfield led UMary with 18 points. Kelton Coleman added 17, Jackson Ware had 16 and Andre Austin 15 and eight assists… LAST UMARY WIN AT MSUM Matthew Kreklow paired 26 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Marauders to a 75-69 road win on February 22, 2020. Trevor Kaiser added 16 points.  
 
 
HISTORY LESSON – MARAUDERS VS. GOLDEN EAGLES
Since joining the Northern Sun for the 2006-07 season, the Marauders are 28-10 against the Golden Eagles… UMary is 18-3 at home and 10-7 away against UMC… The Marauders are 20-7 in the last 27 outings against the Golden Eagles… UMary has won six straight and 8-of-9. LAST MEETING/LAST UMARY WIN / LAST UMARY HOME WIN UMary overwhelmed UMC on both ends of the court in a 79-54 home win December 11. Jackson Ware had 16 points and Tshawn Bois added 15 points and nine rebounds for UMary… LAST UMARY ROAD WIN The visiting Marauders downed the Golden Eagles 86-75 on December 14, 2024. Kevin McGaskey had 18 points, Jeremiah Jones 16 and Ty Rogers 15.

The Marauders bench scores 34.1 points/game to rank 13th in NCAA D2 and 1st in the NSIC.
 
ROTATE
A high-energy Marauders offensive and defensive playing style has opened the door to numerous playing combinations. Eleven Marauders have earned starts this season… Five Marauders have played in all 25 games with Tamarrein Henderson and Jackson Ware the lone two who have started every game… The 11 Marauders who have played at least 12 games this season average at least 11 minutes/game.
 
FOR THREE!
UMary leads the NSIC in treys made/game at 10.3 and ranks 17th in the country… UMary averages an NSIC-leading 32.3 3-point attempts/game (2nd in nation)… UMary hit a season-high 16 against Bismarck State and against Wayne State College. The 16 treys are the most in a single game by UMary since the Marauders dropped 17 at Saint Martin's University on November 19, 2008.  
 
STOP THIEF
Leading a high-pressure Marauders defense, Kelton Coleman is 2nd in the Northern Sun in steals and ranks 18th in NCAA Division II with 2.5 steals/game. Coleman had a career-best six steals against Jamestown… As a team the Marauders average 8.9 steals/game to rank 2nd in the NSIC. UMary is also 2nd in the NSIC in turnovers forced/game (13.5).
 
BALANCE
Through 24 games, 10 Marauders are averaging at least 5.6 points per game. Kelton Coleman leads UMary in scoring at 13.2 ppg. Next on the scoring list are Cayden Redfield (9.0 ppg), Tshawn Bois (7.1 ppg), Jackson Ware (7.0 ppg), Tamarrein Henderson (6.5), Andre Austin (7.1), Noah Thomas (7.3), Amare Jackson (6.3), Parker Brodina (5.6) and Alex Dvorak (5.9). Bois, Redfield, Thomas and Jackson primarily do their damage off the bench. 
 
MINUTES
Eleven Marauders average at least 11.7 minutes per game, with no one averaging over 25.9 minutes/game. Freshman Andre Austin averages a team-high 25.9 minutes/game, just ahead of Kelton Coleman (23.6), Tamarrein Henderson (22.5), Jackson Ware (21.7) and Parker Brodina (20.2). 
 
COLEMAN TAKES THE LEAD
Kelton Coleman, a junior from Fort Worth, TX, has led UMary in scoring nine times in 24 games and has reached double figures 17 times. In his first year at UMary after playing at Augustana last season, the guard posted a season-best 22 points at Jamestown. He averages 13.2 ppg and 3.5 rebounds/game. He has gone to the free throw line 89 times, 38 more times than anyone else on the team. Coleman also leads UMary with 59 steals and is second in assists (47).
 
AUSTIN POWER PLAY
Freshman Andre Austin is off to a strong start in his collegiate career. The Bismarck, ND, native leads the team in minutes played (25.9 minutes/game) and assists (50). The guard averages 7.1 points and 3.0 rebounds per game. He scored 14 points in his first college game against Northwestern Oklahoma State University and set a season-high with 15 in a win over MSU Moorhead. Austin graduated from Bismarck High School, where he played for Jordan Wilhelm, a four-year starter for the Marauders from 2007-11 and a member of UMary's 2011 NCAA tournament team.
 
BOARD GAMES
Aggressive on the offensive boards, the Marauders are 42nd nationally in offensive rebounds (13.2/game) and 2nd in the NSIC.
 
FIRST
UMary head coach Darren Tighe earned his first win at the helm of the Marauders in a 78-73 home win over Minot State University to open NSIC play. The Marauders rallied from 20 points down to get the win… Three days later Tighe gained his second win as UMary downed South Dakota Mines. 
 
TOURNEY TOPPERS
The Marauders have beaten two teams who qualified for the 2025 NCAA Division II men's basketball tournament, downing Minot State 78-73 and MSU Moorhead 96-90. MSU Moorhead was also the NSIC tournament champion.
 
THREE
With the victory over MSU Moorhead, the Marauders equaled their NSIC win total from the 2024-25 conference season with three. 
 
NEAR AND FAR
The Marauders 2025-26 roster features two players from Bismarck, ND, and five from North Dakota: Andre Austin (Bismarck), Wyatt Westin (Bismarck), Alex Dvorak (Dickinson), Parker Brodina (Devils Lake) and Ryan Larson (Jamestown)… UMary also features five international scholar-athletes: Tyresse Poku Mensah (London, England), Tshawn Bois (Quebec, Canada), Sini Tuakoi (Auckland, New Zealand), Relja Nagulic (Subotica, Serbia) and Jackson Ware (Northern Rivers, NSW, Australia).
 
DARREN TIGHE TAKES MARAUDERS HELM
Darren Tighe (pronounced TIE) is in his first season at UMary and earned his first two wins leading the Marauders in the first two home games of the season over Thanksgiving week. Running the show is not a new experience for Tighe. In ten years as a college head coach prior to UMary Tighe has a record of 169-112. In three seasons at Ridgewater (MN) Community College (2014-17), he led the Warriors to a mark of 48-34 that included a 20-win season to break a 50 year old school record for victories... In five seasons at Mayville (ND) State University (2017-22), the Comets went 92-42, won a league title and advanced to three national tournaments. Twice he earned coach of the year honors. The first season with the Comets, Mayville State went from nine wins the previous year to 18 wins… Tighe coached the previous two years at Dakota (SD) State University. In his first season the Trojans won 17 games and posted their first winning season in eight seasons.
 
ALL IN
Fifteen Marauders have played this season, including 11 who have played at least 10 games and eight who have competed in all 16 games. Three played for the Marauders last season (Cayden Redfield, Tamerrein Henderson and Alex Dvorak) with 12 others making their debut in the Blue & Orange this season: Kelton Coleman, Amare Jackson, Andre Austin, Kenny Gonzalez, Relja Nagulic, Tshawn Bois, Noah Thomas, Jackson Ware, Parker Brodina, Ryan Larson, Tyresse Poku Mensah and Wyatt Westin.
 
FAMILIAR FACES
The Marauders return four players from 2024-25. Sr. G Cayden Redfield is the leading returning scorer. Last year in his first season at UMary after transferring from United Tribes, Redfield averaged 4.7 ppg in 21 games. Three times he reached double digits, including 18 points against Minnesota State… Sophomore guard Tamerrein Henderson saw action in 27 games in his first collegiate season. He scored a season-best nine points against Central Oklahoma… Sophomore guard Alex Dvorak saw action in eight games as a redshirt freshman and hit 3-of-4 trey attempts… Ryan Larson is a redshirt freshman guard who did not play last season due to injury.
 
GET TO KNOW 'EM
In addition to new head coach Darren Tighe and new assistant coach Jacob Leier, the Marauders have 12 new players on the roster… Jr. G Kenny Gonzalez is the Marauders Northern Sun Player to Watch this season. He joins the Marauders after two seasons at San Diego City College, where he averaged 12.1 points/game and earned all-conference first team honors… Jr. guard Amare Jackson averaged 16.6 ppg last year at Skagit Valley College and received All-American, All-Region and all-academic honors… Fr. G Andre Austin is a 2-time all-state player from Bismarck, ND, and played for former Marauders player Jordan Wilhelm at Bismarck High School… Jr. G Kelton Coleman played 25 games last season for NSIC rival Augustana… Tshawn Bois is a junior guard from Quebec, Canada, and transferred to UMary from Lamar (CO) Community College after scoring 13.2 ppg last year… Fr. G Tyrese Poku Mensah comes to UMary from London, England… Wyatt Westin is a Fr. G from Shiloh Christian HS in Bismarck, ND… Parker Brodina is a freshman guard from Devils Lake, ND, where he was named the 2025 North Dakota Class A Senior Athlete of the Year… New Zealand native Sini Tuakoi is a junior forward who played at the New Mexico Military Institute last year after a season at Clarendon College… Relja Nagulic, a native of Serbia, is a sophomore forward who played at Coffeyville Community College last season… A native of Australia, Jackson Ware is a junior forward joining the Marauders after playing two seasons at Purdue Northwest… Noah Thomas is a senior guard joining the Marauders from the University of Arkansas at Monticello, where he started 17 games last season after previously playing at Chabot College and Oregon Institute of Technology.
