BURNSVILLE, MN – For the second time this season, University of Mary sophomore
Ivy Wessel was named the Northern Sun Defender of the Week.
The Marauders went on the road and posted a pair of shutouts to move into first place in the Northern Sun and claim a home playoff game.
Wessel contributed on both ends of the pitch, picking up an assist in both games while anchoring a Marauders back line that held opposing offenses at bay.
UMary opened with a 3-0 win at the University of Minnesota Crookston. The sophomore from Rosemount, MN, earned an assist on the Marauders final goal. She played all 90 minutes as UMary held UMC to three total shots with just two on target.
The Marauders weekend closed with a 6-0 rout of MSU Moorhead. UMary limited the Dragons to nine shots with just two on frame. Wessel picked up her second assist of the weekend and the season on UMary's 4
th goal of the game.
Over the two games Wessel finished with two assists as the Marauders posted two clean sheets while allowing a combined 12 shots with four on frame.
Wessel previously earned NSIC player of the week honors for her efforts in the opening game of the season.
The Marauders, who have a 12-game unbeaten streak, are 12-2-3 overall. UMary is 11-1-2 in the NSIC and is tied with Minnesota State for first place with 35 points.
UMary looks to break the program's single game attendance record on Thursday, October 29, when the Marauders hosts HWY 83 rival Minot State University in a 5 pm match. Tailgating starts at 4 pm at the MDU Resources Community Bowl. The first 200 fans wearing Marauders gear or blue and orange receiving a sensory cube.
The Marauders then host an NSIC tournament first round home game on Monday, November 2. More information will be released following the conclusion of the regular season on Thursday.
