MINOT, ND – A dominant performance by
Bergan Kinnebrew helped lead the University of Mary women's basketball team (13-4, 6-2 Northern Sun) to a 79-64 road victory over in-state rivals Minot State University (7-8, 4-4 NSIC). The Marauders finish the regular season with a 2-0 record against the Beavers.
Kinnebrew, the NSIC's leading scorer, recorded 38 points to go along with six rebounds and three assists. The Bismarck, ND, native shot 12-of-19 from the field, 3-of-6 from behind the arc, and 11-of-13 from the free-throw line. Kinnebrew has scored 30 points or more in four games this season.
Chloe Pfau scored 17 points for the second game in a row and grabbed six rebounds.
Allison Undlin went 4-of-5 from the floor to post ten points and five rebounds.
Eden Fridley had six rebounds, four assists, and four points.
Anna Lenzen added four points, five rebounds, and two steals.
UMary fell behind at the end of the first quarter, trailing MSU 12-11. Kinnebrew then exploded for 18 points in the second quarter to help propel the Marauders to a 41-25 lead at halftime.
The third quarter saw UMary keep the momentum rolling, outscoring the Beavers 21-17 to hold a 62-42 advantage going into the fourth quarter. The Marauders increased their lead to as big as 24 in the final quarter before winning 79-64.
UMary shot 29-of-64 (45.3%) from the field and 8-of-21 (33.3%) from behind the arc, while MSU went 24-of-59 (40.7%) from the floor and 6-of-25 (24%) from three. The Marauders shot 14-of-17 (82.4%) from the free-throw line, while the Beavers went 10-of-15 (66.7%) from the charity stripe.
UMary controlled the glass, outrebounding MSU 43-30. The turnover battle was even as both teams gave the ball away 14 times.
The Marauders return home to host #2 Minnesota State University, Mankato, on Friday, January 9, at 7:30 pm in the McDowell Activity Center.
