Career nights for Brodina, Dvorak pace Marauders road efforts against Golden Bears

ST. PAUL, MN – Parker Brodina and Alex Dvorak combined for nine treys and 33 points to key the efforts for the University of Mary men's basketball team in a 92-79 road loss to Concordia-St. Paul. Both Brodina and Dvorak posted career-high scoring nights for the Marauders.

The two North Dakota products teamed up to go 9-for-12 from behind the arc as the Marauders regained their long-range touch. After making just six treys at Winona State University on Friday, the NSIC leaders in three-pointers per game drained 14 on 35 attempts. UMary entered the weekend averaging 10 treys/game.

A freshman from Devils Lake, ND, Brodina scored 18 points as he was near-perfect from the field. He went 4-for-5 on his three-point attempts and made 7-of-8 shots overall. Brodina's previous high was 11 points against St. Cloud State University.

Dvorak, a sophomore guard from Dickinson, ND, added 15 points. His previous best was nine points, which he hit three times this season. Dvorak was on fire from deep, making five of his seven three-point shots against the Golden Bears.

Two other Marauders also reached double figures.

Kelton Coleman, the Marauders leading scorer, came off the bench to score 15 points in 20 minutes of play. The junior guard hit 7-of-11 shots and dished out four assists. Second in the NSIC in steals, Coleman pilfered the ball three times in the game. With Coleman leading the way, the Marauders forced 19 turnovers as UMary (5-17 overall, 3-13 Northern Sun) outscored CSP (15-7 overall, 10-6 NSIC) 23-9 in points off turnovers.

Cayden Redfield added 13 points, five rebounds and three steals. He hit three treys in the game in seven attempts.

UMary shot 45.7% overall for the game and 40% on treys. Concordia-St. Paul was even more efficient, making 58.9% of its shots overall and making 50% on treys (13-of-26).

The Golden Bears, who started fast and never trailed in the game, scored 19 of the first 23 points. Owen Carlson led CSP with 27 points and eight rebounds and hit 5-of-8 on treys. Reid Patterson made 5-of-7 shots from behind the arc and scored 17 points.

The Marauders return home for a pair of games, hosting the University of Minnesota Duluth on Thursday, February 5, at 7:30 pm. UMary then hosts Bemidji State University at 3:30 pm on Saturday, February 7.
