CEDAR FALLS, IA - The #19 University of Mary wrestling team placed sixth at the NWCA Division II National Duals after going 1-1 on day two of the tournament. UMary defeated #6 Tiffin University 26-17 and fell 33-7 to #13 St. Cloud State University.

The Marauders next dual is on the road against Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, MN, on Thursday, January 15, at 7 pm.

UMary – 26, Tiffin – 17
The Dragons took down the 125-pound weight class by an 11-4 decision. Gabe Mortensen picked up the Marauders first victory in style at 122 pounds, pinning Candio Deluna after 5:42 of action.

#11 Sean Solis continued his dominant performance at 141 pounds, defeating Elijah Dorsey by a 17-2 tech fall. Kaden DeCoteau impressed with a pinfall victory over Antonio Hobbs at 141 pounds. DeCoteau trailed 6-1 in the match before coming back to pin Hobbs at the 5:52 mark.

TU grabbed a pinfall victory at 157 pounds to cut the UMary lead to 17-9. Lane Ewing grinded out a tough 11-8 sudden victory over Gavin Owens at 165 pounds.

Following a 10-1 major decision in favor of the Dragons at 174 pounds, Sam Bruss picked up a critical win at 184 pounds by defeating #13 David Davis by a 6-5 decision.  

TU cut the lead to 23-17 after winning a 13-3 major decision at 197 pounds. For the second dual in a row, #4 Luke Tweeton secured the Marauders the win after earning a 10-5 sudden victory over #6 Jake Powell.

SCSU – 33, UMary – 7
The Huskies would claim eight of the ten weight classes to win 33-7.

Mason Gutenberger showcased his skills, winning his first match of the tournament by an 8-2 decision over Austin Grzywinski at 125 pounds.

Trae Thilmony took down the 149-pound weight class, defeating Vance Barz by a 10-1 major decision.
