Barnhardt recognized as Academic All-America for 2nd straight year

AUSTIN, TX – A national champion and four-time All-American on the mat, University of Mary senior Reece Barnhardt added to his Marauders legacy as a true scholar-athlete by earning a coveted spot on the 2025 Academic All-America® NCAA Division II Men's At Large first team as selected by the College Sports Communicators (CSC).
 
This is the second straight year Barnhardt has claimed s spot on the prestigious CoSIDA/CSC Academic All-America® team. He earned third team honors last season.
 
The Bismarck, ND, native is one of only five Marauders to ever earn Academic All-America® honors from CSC/CoSIDA and just the third two-time Academic All-America®. He is also the only wrestler to earn this honor.
 
The At Large team consists of NCAA Division II scholar-athletes who competed in wrestling, golf, lacrosse, skiing, ice hockey gymnastics, water polo, fencing and rifle. Barnhardt was one of 17 repeat selections from last season, one of just seven wrestlers on the 15-man first team and one of ten wrestlers overall on the 45-man 1st, 2nd and 3rd team Academic All-America® teams. He was also one of six recognized from the Northern Sun.
 
Barnhardt graduated this spring from the University of Mary with a degree in Respiratory Therapy and owns a 3.73 GPA.
 
UMary's first NCAA wrestling champion, Barnhardt won the 2025 NCAA Division II title at 133 pounds and was selected as both the Northern Sun's Outstanding Senior of the Year and the Wrestler of the Year for 2025 after leading UMary to an NCAA program-best sixth place team finish nationally.
 
Also the Marauders first four-time NCAA All-American, the 4-time All-NSIC wrestler finished his UMary career with an overall record of 110-27, including a 101-22 record against NCAA Division II opponents, and an impressive 54-3 career dual record. He placed fourth at Nationals in both 2022 and 2024 and won the 2024 NCAA Super Regional V tournament. Barnhardt earned First Team All-NSIC honors in 2023, 2024 and 2025 seasons. In 2022, he was named NWCA Division II Rookie of the Year and NSIC Wrestling Rookie of the Year.


Barnhardt (2025 1st team, 2024 3rd team At Large/wrestling) joins Isaac Pegors (2025 baseball 1st team), Lexie Schneider (2024 women's basketball 2nd team), Vanessa Murillo (1st team swimming & diving 2023, 2nd team swimming & diving 2024), Cal James (2023 baseball 3rd team), D'Andra Morris (2021 2nd team, 2022 3rd team track & field), Elizabeth Acheson (2022 3rd team track & field), John Oyloe (2013 football 1st team), Andrew Beyer (2017 baseball 3rd team) and Ida Narbuvoll (2021 track & field/cross country 1st team and Academic All-America Team Member of the Year) as CSC/CoSIDA Academic All-Americans in UMary history.
 
To be eligible for CSC Academic All-District® and All-America® consideration, a scholar-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.50 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CSC has bestowed Academic All-America® honors to student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
