2025 season ends for Marauders against Huskies in NSIC tournament

SIOUX FALLS, SD – The 2025 season came to an end for the University of Mary baseball team as a hard-fought battle ended in a 9-7 defeat to St. Cloud State University.

For the second game in a row the Marauders took a 1-0 lead when Krece Papierski smacked a single through the right side in the second inning, scoring Marcus Butts. The Huskies responded with four runs in the bottom of the second inning and one run in the third to take a 5-1 lead.

The fifth inning saw Isaac Pegors, the NSIC Player of the Year, cut the SCSU lead in half. Pegors singled up the middle to score Luke Rhee, and Kalem Haney scored on a throwing error by the third baseman during the play.

The Huskies responded with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Bryce Leafgren made it an 8-4 ballgame when he smoked a home run over the left field wall in the sixth inning.

Cole Smith came on to pitch for the Marauders in the sixth inning. Smith retired the first six batters he faced. The Huskies grabbed one run in the bottom of the eighth against the Lynden, Ontario, native to increase their lead to 9-4.

The Marauders did not go down without a fight in the top of the ninth inning. Papierski hit a double to right-center field to bring home Kieran Gaffney. A Luke Rhee single put Marauders on the corners. Haney then lifted a sac fly to left field, scoring Papierski.

With two outs, Pegors kept the inning alive when he singled to right field. Leafgren then roped a single to center field to score Rhee and bring the winning run to the plate. On a 3-1 count, Noah Hull smacked a line drive to center field that was caught to end the game.
