MANDAN, ND – In one final tune-up before the start of championship season,
Michael Heitkamp scored the lone goal of the game for the #13 University of Mary hockey team in a 5-1 loss to the #5 University of Jamestown in Midwest College Hockey play.
The Marauders close out the regular season with a record of 22-13-0-0-0-0 (W-L-OTL-T-SOW-SOL) overall, 21-13-0-0-0-0 in ACHA MD1 play and 12-8-0-0-0-0 against Midwest College Hockey competition. Jamestown improves to 21-11-1-0-1-0 overall and 15-4-1-0-0-0 in MCH play.
UMary earns the #3 seed in the MCH North Division for the 2025 league tournament. Jamestown claimed the #2 seed.
The Marauders next compete at the Midwest College Hockey tournament on Friday, February 21, and will face either tournament host Illinois State University or the University of Illinois in the opening round. The winner of Illinois State/Illinois game Saturday night earns the #2 seed from the MCH South (ISU held a 4-3 lead with 7:00 remaining in regulation) and will play #3 seed UMary.
The 2025 MCH playoffs run Friday through Sunday, February 21-23, at the Bloomington Ice Center in Bloomington, IL. Illinois State serves as the host. The top four teams in each of the two MCH divisions qualify with the top seed from each division earning a 1
st round bye. The tournament champion earns an automatic berth to the ACHA Men's Division I national tournament.
The Jimmies opened the scoring at 4:01 of the first period. With the Marauders unable to clear the puck from their defensive zone, Brenden Volcano fired a long shot from above the left circle through traffic and into the net. Jamestown added two more goals in the next 126 seconds for a 3-0 lead. The visitors tacked on two more goals in the opening session and led 5-0 at the first intermission.
UMary broke onto the scoreboard midway through the third period. Team captain
Michael Heitkamp picked up the puck in the left circle. Skating towards the goal, the defenseman ripped a shot from just inside the dot past Jimmies netminder Brandon Weare for Heitkamp's 14
th goal of the season.

th game for the Marauders in the game.
The Marauders held a 37-35 edge in shots for the game. Jamestown held the edge 19-11 after the first period before the Marauders outshot the Jimmies 13-8 in both the second and third periods.
Both teams were 0-for-4 on the power play. Both sides were also whistled for five penalties covering 10 minutes each.
