Flatley, Cross lead #11 Marauders to 3-0 win and weekend sweep of #24 Warriors

FREMONT, ND – Bookend goals by Isaac Flatley and another big night in net for Caleb Cross delivered a series road sweep for #11 University of Mary as the Marauders earned a 3-0 win over #24 Midland University.
 
The win is the fourth straight for the Marauders, who defeated the Warriors 4-1 on Friday. UMary improves to 14-6-0-0-0-1 (W-L-OTL-T-SOW-SOL) overall, 13-6-0-0-0-1 against ACHA MD1 teams and remains 4-2-0-0-0-0 in MCH play (12 points). Additionally the Marauders are 11-6-0-0-0-0 when playing nationally ranked teams. #24 Midland is 6-11-3-0-1-0 overall and 2-2-2-0-0-0 (8 points) in MCH play. (NOTE: This was a non-conference game between the two MCH members).
 
In a relatively peaceful first period compared to what was to come, Flatley delivered the opening goal of the game when he knocked in a loose puck from the right side of the crease at 15:48.
 
Lyndon Orr, who had a goal and an assist in the opening game with the Warriors, scored at 15:23 of the second period on a low angle shot on the end line from close to the right boards.
 
The second period featured seven penalties – four for the Marauders – that included both a 5-minute major and a 10-minute player misconduct calls on the Warriors.
 
The third period also witnessed seven penalty calls, this time four on Midland. On an end-to-end rush with a delayed penalty on the Warriors forthcoming, Flatley delivered his second goal of the game when he took a feed in the slot from David Loahr and rifled the puck into the back of the net at the 5:53 mark to seal the UMary win.
 
Cross, who faced six power play opportunities for the Warriors in the game, faced 34 shots and kept all 34 out of the net for the first UMary shutout of the season.
 
UMary had seven power play opportunities but was unable to convert.
 
The Marauders now return to North Dakota to face #7 University of Jamestown on the road Thursday, December 11. UMary is back home Friday and Saturday, December 12-13, to host Dakota College at Bottineau.
