FREMONT, NE – On a night where 11 skaters recorded a point for #11 University of Mary,
Lyndon Orr led the way with a goal and an assist as the Marauders recorded a 4-1 road win over #24 Midland University.
UMary is 13-6-0-0-0-1 (W-L-OTL-T-SOW-SOL) overall, 12-6-0-0-0-1 against ACHA MD1 teams and 4-2-0-0-0-0 in MCH play (12 points). Additionally the Marauders are 10-6-0-0-0-0 when playing nationally ranked teams. #24 Midland is 6-10-3-0-1-0 overall and 2-2-2-0-0-0 (8 points) in MCH play. (NOTE: This was a non-conference game between the two MCH members).
Just 2:46 into the game,
Liam Massie jumped on a rebound of an
Amraj Gill shot to tap home the puck for a quick 1-0 UMary lead.
After the Warriors responded with a goal at 6:41 to pull even,
Dain Sardelli picked up a puck in the slot and rifled a shot inside the left post at 8:54 to regain the lead for UMary. It is the fifth game-winning goal of the season for Sardelli and the second straight as he also had the winning goal in the Marauders victory at #7 University of Jamestown on Wednesday. Additionally Sardelli has scored a goal in three straight games.
In a rugged third period that included six penalties – three aside – the Marauders increased their lead to 3-1 on a give-and-go between
Alex Senf and
Joe Gronholz. Taking the puck from Senf in the neutral zone, Gronholz raced down the left boards before centering a pass to Senf on the right side of the slot. Gathering the puck, Senf whistled home his shot into the open right side of the net.
Lyndon Orr, who assisted on the opening goal, closed the scoring when he knocked home a loose puck into the right side of the net at 2:22 of the third period.
Caleb Cross had another strong night in net, posting 26 saves for UMary.
Posting double-digit shot totals in all three periods, including 16 in the second, UMary outshot Midland 39-27. Neither team scored on the power play with UMary missing on three opportunities and Midland on four.
The Marauders and the Warriors wrap up the weekend series with a 7 pm game on Saturday, December 6, in Fremont, NE.
