THIS WEEK
The #10 University of Mary hockey team closes out the 2025 portion of their schedule with three games in three days. The Marauders wrap up a 7-game road trip with a visit to #6 University of Jamestown on Thursday, December 11. The puck drops at 7 pm in Jamestown, ND, between the I-94 rivals in Game 3 of this season's Jug Series.

UMary then plays its only home games of the final month of the year when the Marauders host the Lumberjacks of Dakota College of Bottineau on Friday and Saturday, December 12-13. Friday's game is set for 7 pm with Saturday's contest scheduled for 2 pm at the Starion Sports Complex Schwan Cadillac Rink in Mandan, ND.

THE JUG SERIES
After two games, the 2025-26 Jug Series between the University of Mary and the University of Jamestown is even at one win apiece in the best-of-5 series (UJ 4-0 win at UMary 11/1/25, UMary 3-2 win at UJ 12/3/25, UMary at UJ 12/11/25, UMary at UJ 1/23/26, UJ at UMary 1/24/26). Â Â Â

Located just 100 miles apart on I-94, the University of Mary and the University of Jamestown compete annually for a travelling trophy called simply "The Jug." The team that wins the yearly series of games claims possession of The Jug, which is a Bridgeman Russell Company Jug. UMary purchased the trophy and had "The Jug" painted and logoed. Each winning team is responsible for placing their institution's name and record in the series on "The Jug" each season.

The Jug series started in the 2024-25 season with the Jimmies claiming the title after winning 4-of-5 games.Â

HISTORY LESSON – UMARY VS. JAMESTOWN
The Marauders are 10-15-1-0-0-0 against the Jimmies ACHA MD1 program… The two teams have split their two meetings this season… The Marauders 3-2 win at UJ on December 3 snapped a 4-game win streak by the Jimmies over UMary.

The Marauders are 23-2-1 all-time against the Lumberjacks… The two teams last met January 31, 2024, when the Marauders defeated the visiting Lumberjacks 7-1… Dakota College and Lake Region State College are the only two ACHA MD2 teams the Marauders will face this year

#11 UMary swept a pair of road games from Midland University last weekend.
Lyndon Orr had a goal and an assist as the Marauders opened with a 4-1 win over the Warriors. UMary finished the sweep with a 3-0 win as
Isaac Flatley tallied twice and
Caleb Cross stopped all 34 shots he faced for the Marauders first shutout of the season. Â
MARAUDERS JUMP TO #10
The Marauders upward ascent continues as the University of Mary checks in at a season-best #10 in the 9
th American Collegiate Hockey Association Men's Division 1Â ranking of the season. UMary ranked 14
th in the preseason poll and the first two rankings of the season. After four straight weeks at #12, the Marauders jumped up to #11 for two straight polls… The October 29 poll was the last coaches' ranking of the season. Computerized rankings started November 5 and continue into February. The computerized rankings determine the 18 squads who will join the six teams earning automatic qualifying bids to form the 24-team ACHA MD1 national championship tournament field and compete for the title in Centene, MO, in March.

BY THE NUMBERS
- Alex Senf is off to a blazing start. In the course of 20 games the 2nd year forward leads the Marauders with 11 goals. He is second on the squad in points with 20 (11g 9a).
- Â The 2024-25 Midwest College Hockey Rookie of the Year and all-conference forward is having another impressive season. Joe Gronholz leads the team in assists (15) and leads in points (23). He has eight goals, including a team-best three power play goals. Â
- In his first season at UMary Dain Sardelli leads UMary with five game-winning goals. He is second on the team in goals (8), fifth in assists (9) and third in points (18).
- David Loahr has eight goals already this season to go with nine assists for 17 points. He scored six goals last year in 36 games, his first season at UMary.
- Matt Scribner has been an offensive force for the Marauders on the blue line this season. He is second on the team in assists (13) and has three goals. His 16 points lead the Marauders defensive unit and is fifth on the team.
- Right behind Scribner in scoring by defensemen is Amraj Gill. In his first season at UMary Gill owns four goals and ten assists for 14 points.
- Isaac Flatley has also found success in his first season at UMary. The forward owns seven goals and nine assists for 16 points.
- Hunter Mangan owns six goals and seven assists for 13 points. The second year forward has scored an even strength goal, on the power play and shorthanded, one of four Marauders who has done so.

BIG WINS
The Marauders earned the 250
th win in program history November 22 in the 5-4 win over West Chester University of Pennsylvania… With the Marauders win over the Jimmies on December 3, Head Coach Dan Huntley owns 253 coaching wins at UMary and 349 collegiate coaching wins overall.  Â

TIMING
First-year forward
Dain Sardelli has had perfect timing, scoring the game-winning goal in five different games this season, a team-high. He was credited with the game-winner in victories over Lake Region State (9-1), Colorado (4-2), Purdue Northwest (3-1), at Jamestown (3-2) and at Midland (4-1). The only other UMary player with multiple game-winners is
Isaac Flatley (2).

Sixteen Marauders have scored goals this season and 14 have at least two goals. Additionally 21 Marauders have an assist.

NET GAINS
Zane Clausen and
Caleb Cross, both in their second seasons at UMary, have split time in the net for the Marauders this season. Clausen has played eight games and owns a 4-3 record with a 2.68 goals against average and a 91.7 save percentage. Cross is 10-3 with a 2.20 GAA and a 93.1 SV%... Cross earned the Marauders first shutout of the season with 34 saves in a 3-0 win at Midland. Â

The Marauders have scored 13 goals on 74 power play opportunities (17.6%)… UMary has allowed opponents to score 12 times on 74 opportunities (83.8% penalty kill %)… UMary has a 4-1 edge in shorthanded goals.

MARAUDERS PICKED 3RD IN MCH PRESEASON POLL
Midwest College Hockey coaches project the University of Mary to finish third this season in the seven-team league.

Defending league champion Minot State University tops the 2025-26 MCH Preseason Coaches' Poll, released September 24. The University of Jamestown is picked second, followed by UMary, Midland University, McKendree, Waldorf University and Iowa State University.

All seven teams will compete in the MCH conference tournament February 20-22 in Albert Lea, MN. The MCH Playoff champion will hoist the Lindsay Cup and earn a berth in the 2026 American Collegiate Hockey Association Men's Division 1 national championships set for March 12-17 in Maryland Heights, MO.

In a schedule chock full of the top teams in the country, the Marauders play 27 games of their scheduled 38 contest against teams ranked in the Top 25 preseason poll. UMary faces #3 Minot State (5 games), #6 Jamestown (5), #9 Drury (2), #10 Utah (1), #11 Calvin (1), #15 Purdue-Northwestern (1), #18 Midland (4), #21 Arizona State (2), #21 Delaware (1), #23 Grand Valley State (1) and #25 Colorado (4).

The Marauders finished last season 23-15-0-0-0-0 overall and 22-15-0-0-0-0 against ACHA MD1 teams.

HISTORY LESSON
UMary, which won back-to-back ACHA Men's Division II national championships in 2020 and 2021, made the move up to MD1 for the 2022-23 season. Head Coach Dan Huntley has directed the incredibly successful UMary program since the Marauders first took to the ice in September 2018. Over the course of seven seasons UMary has fashioned a record of 239-56-9-11-2-1 (W-L-OTL-T-SOW-SOL), posting a winning season with 20 or more wins each year.

The Marauders made their second straight MD1 national tournament last spring and went 1-1, defeating the University of Pittsburgh 4-0 in the opening round before falling to #3 Ohio University 3-0. Throughout program history covering six national tournaments, the Marauders are 14-2-1-0-0-0 (W-L-OTL-T-SOW-SOL) in ACHA tournament games and has only two losses in regulation. Â

HEITKAMP, GRONHOLZ, CUNNINGHAM LEAD VETERAN SQUAD
The Marauders return an experienced club as 21 of 25 players return from last season.

Michael Heitkamp leads the way for the Marauders returners. The two-way defenseman from Grand Rapids, MN, was a threat on both ends of the rink for UMary. In his second season with the Marauders and fourth overall in ACHA MD1, Heitkamp scored 15 goals and delivered 15 assists for 30 points to earn a spot on the 2024-25 ACHA MD1 All-Athletic 3
rd team. Heitkamp is the first UMary player to claim ACHA MD1 All-Athletic Status.
