Box Score 2 BISMARCK, ND – The University of Mary men's basketball team used a scintillating second half to win their second straight home game, downing South Dakota Mines 82-71 on the opening day of the Dakota Challenge. Nearly perfect from the field,
Tshawn Bois led the Marauders efforts with 19 points as UMary outscored the Hardrockers by 15 points over the final 20 minutes of play.
The Dakota Challenge wraps up Saturday, November 29, with two more games at the McDowell Activity Center. Minot State University faces South Dakota Mines at 2 pm. UMary then hosts #23 Black Hills State University at 5 pm. In the opening Dakota Challenge game on Friday BHSU defeated Minot State 72-65.
Bois gave the Marauders a jolt offensively from the bench, scoring his 19 points in just 18 minutes of play. The junior guard from Quebec, Ontario, Canada, hit four treys in six attempts and made 7-of-9 shots overall. Bois also tied for the team lead in rebounds with eight.
In a game that featured six ties and ten lead changes, the Marauders trailed 38-34 at halftime. The Hardrockers Jason Lee hit a trey on the first possession of the second half to give Mines its largest lead of the game at 41-34. Using treys by
Jackson Ware and Bois, the Marauders used a 13-3 run to take a 47-44 lead.
After another tie at 52-52, the Marauders took control for good with a 14-2 run. A trey by
Relja Nagulic broke the deadlock and layups followed by
Tamarrein Henderson and
Cayden Redfield. Following a pair of Hardrockers free throws, Bois hit again from behind the arc and a slam and a layup by Nagulic earned the Marauders a 66-54 lead with 8:07 to play.
Mines managed to pull with seven twice, the last time with 1:36 left in the game.
Kelton Coleman then sealed the UMary win with a 3-point play with 1:05 remaining.
All ten Marauders who played in the game scored for UMary. The Marauders shot 48.3% for the game. In the second half UMary made 58.6% of its shots with a 5-of-10 performance from behind the arc on the way to outscoring the Hardrockers 48-33 after intermission.
Nagulic scored 12 points for UMary and
Andre Austin added 10. Both had eight rebounds. Austin also had four assists. Coleman and Redfield added nine points each and Henderson had eight. Ware swatted aside five shots and had four assists.
Mines was led in scoring by Gavin Soukup, who scored 22 points off the bench. Soukup drained 7-of-8 shots from behind the arc. Ryan Sweeney and Darren Wallace had 12 each and Gray Thopson just missed a double double with nine points and 10 rebounds.
While the Hardrockers hit 14 treys to nine for the Marauders, UMary outscored South Dakota Mines 38-16 in the paint.
UMary improves to 2-3 this season. South Dakota Mines is 1-5.
DAKOTA CHALLENGE GAME 1: #23 Black Hills State University 72 Minot State University 65

In the opening game of the Dakota Challenge, #23 Black Hills State University held off a second half charge by Minot State University for a 72-65 non-conference neutral site victory.
Cam Lowe led a balanced attack for the Yellow Jackets with 15 points. He drained three treys, had eight rebounds and made four steals, all team-highs. Myles Johnson added 13 points and Tristan Hurdle had three triples and 11 points off the bench.
Benjamin Deuce paced the Beavers with 20 points, making 3-of-4 treys and 7-of-10 shots overall. Darik Dissette added 14 points.
Trailing by 14, the Beavers (3-3 overall) rolled off 14 straight points to tie the game at 51-51. The Yellow Jackets (4-1 overall) responded with eight straight points and a 14-2 run to regain control.
