#12 Marauders drop Jug Series opener to #6 Jimmies

MANDAN, ND – The season's first meeting of The Jug series went to the visitors as #12 University of Mary dropped a 4-0 decision to #6 University of Jamestown. After a scoreless first period the Jimmies tallied once in the second and tacked on three more in the third in Midwest College hockey play.

The Marauders, who have played 11 games this season against teams ranked in the American College Hockey Association (ACHA) Men's Division 1 polls, are 9-5-0-0-0-0 (W-L-OTL-T-SOW-SOL) overall, 8-5-0-0-0-0 against ACHA MD1 teams and 2-2-0-0-0-0 in MCH play. Additionally the Marauders are 6-5-0-0-0-0 when playing nationally-ranked teams. Jamestown, who split a pair of home games earlier this week with #1 University of Nevada-Las Vegas earlier this week, is 10-4-1-0-0-0 overall.

UMary and Jamestown, located just 100 miles apart on I-94, compete annually for a travelling trophy called simply "The Jug." The team that wins the yearly series of games claims possession of The Jug, which is a Bridgeman Russell Company Jug. The series began last year.

UMary's Caleb Cross and Jamestown goalkeeper Brandon Weare kept both teams off the scoreboard in the first period, with Cross making nine saves and Weare four.

A controversial goal in the second period by Cai Robinson gave the Jimmies the lead at the 3:59 mark as Marauders fans called for goalie interference.

The Jimmies pulled away in the third with three goals, including a power play goal with 1:30 left to play in the game.

The Marauders were unable to tally on two chances with a man advantage while the Jimmies went 1-for-4.

Cross finished the game with 31 saves. Weare made 22.
