DULUTH, MN – A pair of goals off direct kicks from
Dina Polanco and
Chloe Brand earned the University of Mary women's soccer team a 2-2 draw at the University of Minnesota Duluth in the final match of a 4-game road swing.
The Marauders picked up ties in three of their four straight Northern Sun road games.
On a day that featured winds blowing across the field from sideline to sideline at 20 MPH with gusts reaching 36 mph, the Marauders (2-4-3 overall / 0-3-2 Northern Sun) scored first.
On the attack, Polanco was fouled just outside the top left of the penalty area in the 31
st minute. With the ball placed 19 yards straight out from the left post, Polanco wrapped her shot around the Bulldogs defensive wall and just inside the left post and slightly beyond the diving grasp UMD goalkeeper Jayden Rosenfeld. It was the team-leading fifth goal of the season for Polanco, the freshman midfielder from Guatemala.
Just seven minutes later the Bulldogs (3-3-3 / 2-2-2) pulled even after knocking home a loose ball off a scramble from a corner kick to send the game into intermission even at 1-1.
UMary regained the lead in the 61
st minute. On the attack and attempting to work from the left side of the pitch towards the middle,
Bella Kozlowski was fouled by UMD to earn the Marauders a free kick 25 yards out of the left post. Now in the midst of a torrential downpour,
Chloe Brand perfectly placed her shot just inside the near post to give UMary a 2- 1 lead. For Brand, a defender from London, England, it was her first Marauders goal.
With the heavy rain now over, the Bulldogs pulled even in the 68
th minute. Delivering a long free kick into the penalty area, UMD again pounced on a loose ball to score and even the game. Jessica Eischens, who assisted on the first goal, delivered the equalizer in the lower left corner of the net.
The Marauders held the edge in shots (9-5) and shots on frame (6-3) while the Bulldogs had a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks. An aggressive UMD side committed 18 fouls and received two yellow cards to six and one for UMary.
After spending the last two weekends on the road, the Marauders return to Bismarck for Homecoming 2025 and three straight home matches. UMary first hosts Wayne State College at 4 pm on Friday, October 10, before facing Augustana on Sunday, October 12, at 1 pm.
