BEMIDJI, MN – Despite stellar attacking performances by
Dani Highum,
Judith Burke and
Holli Klettheimer, the University of Mary volleyball team dropped a hard-fought three-set match (25-20, 28-26, 25-20) to Bemidji State University.
UMary (4-11, 1-6 Northern Sun) recorded 51 kills on a .345 attack percentage, while BSU (5-10, 2-5 NSIC) posted 47 kills on a .352 attack percentage. The Marauders had 48 assists and one ace, while the Beavers had 42 assists and eight aces.
UMary fell behind early in the first set but rallied to trail 22-20. BSU took down the last three points to win 25-20.
The second set went back and forth, with both teams holding leads. UMary trailed 24-21 but showed grit to tie the score at 24-24 after three straight
Judith Burke kills. With the score tied at 26-26, the Beavers would get a kill and an ace to win 26-28.
BSU, highlighted by a 5-0 run, won the third set 25-20.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Dani Highum recorded 16 kills on a remarkable .560 hitting percentage. Highum also had a team-high 11 digs.
Judith Burke had 14 kills on a .300 attack percentage and four digs.
Holli Klettheimer posted ten kills on a .381 hitting percentage.
Maddy Freed had a team-best 24 assists and four digs.
Natalie Boehmer dished out 20 assists to go along with seven digs.
Dani Highum posted four digs, three kills and three blocks.
Chloe Solheid had six digs.
