th ranked University of Mary returns to action with a pair of big weekend games as the Marauders face two of the top teams in the nation.
 
UMary first faces #2 Minot State University on Friday, October 31, as the Marauders take a Halloween trek 118 miles north on Highway 83. Game time is 7:30 pm in a Midwest College Hockey contest.
 
Following six straight road games, the Marauders return to the home rink for the first time in four weeks when UMary hosts #6 University of Jamestown on Saturday, November 1. The 7 pm contest at the Starion Sports Complex Schwann Cadillac Rink in Mandan, ND, is the first game this season of the Jug Series between the Marauders and the Jimmies. It is also an MCH contest.

THE RECORDS
UMary is 9-3-0-0-0-0 (W-L-OTL-T-SOW-SOL) overall, 8-3-0-0-0-0 against ACHA MD1 teams and 2-0-0-0-0-0 in MCH play. Additionally the Marauders are 6-3-0-0-0-0 when playing nationally-ranked teams… Minot State is 9-0-1-0-0-0 overall and 3-0-1-0-0-0 in MCH… Jamestown is 8-4-1-0-0-0 overall and 2-1-1-0-0-0 in MCH play.
 
LAST WEEK REWIND
The Marauders last took to the ice Oct. 18-19 and claimed a road sweep at Waldorf University. UMary captured the opener 7-3 as both 
Alex Senf and 
Lyndon Orr had a pair of goals with 
David Loahr scoring one goal and dishing out two assists… UMary wrapped up the Midwest College Hockey sweep with a 10-1 win as Orr, Loahr and 
Hunter Mangan scored two goals each, 
Michael Heitkamp delivered three assists and Senf had a goal and two assists. Zane Clasen turned aside 39-of-40 shots in net.   
 
THE JUG SERIES
Located just 100 miles apart on I-94, the University of Mary and the University of Jamestown compete annually for a travelling trophy called simply "The Jug." The team that wins the yearly series of games claims possession of The Jug, which is a Bridgeman Russell Company Jug. UMary purchased the trophy and had "The Jug" painted and logoed. Each winning team is responsible for placing their institution's name and record in the series on "The Jug" each season at their cost using Mann Signs of Bismarck, ND, to ensure consistency.
 
The Jug series started in the 2024-25 season with the Jimmies claiming the title after winning 4-of-5 games.  
 
MARAUDERS REMAIN #12 IN ACHA MD1 POLL
For a second straight week the Marauders are ranked #12 in the ACHA Men's Division 1 national poll. UMary was 14
th in the preseason coaches' poll and remained 14
th in the first two regular season rankings. The October 29 poll was the last coaches' ranking of the season. Computerized rankings begin November 5 and will continue into February. The computerized rankings determine the 18 squads that will join six teams earning automatic qualifying bids to form the 24-team ACHA MD1 national championship tournament field and compete for the title in Centene, MO, in March.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
	- Alex Senf is off to a blazing start. In the course of 12 games the 2nd year forward leads the Marauders with eight goals and is tied for the team lead in points with 14 (8g 6a).
-  The 2024-25 Midwest College Hockey Rookie of the Year and all-conference forward is having another impressive season. Gronholz is tied for the team lead in assists (9) and points (14). He has five goals.
- In his first season at UMary Dain Sardelli is third on the Marauders in points (13). The forward has five goals and eight assists.
- David Loahr has six goals already this season to go with six assists and 12 points. He scored six goals all last season in 36 games.
- Matt Scribner has been an offensive force for the Marauders on the blue line this season. He is tied with Gonholz for the team lead in assists (9) and has two goals and 11 points to lead the Marauders defensive unit in points.
- Right behind Scribner in scoring by defensemen is Michael Heitkamp. The ACHA MD1 All-Athletic 3rd team selection in 2024-25 has two goals and eight assists for 10 points.
- Isaac Flatley has also found success in his first season at UMary. The forward owns four goals and six assists for 10 points.
 
TIMING
First-year forward 
Dain Sardelli has had perfect timing, scoring the game-winning goal in three different games this season, a team-high. He was credited with the game-winner in victories over Lake Region State (9-1), Colorado (4-2) and at Purdue Northwest (3-1).
 
SHARE THE LOAD
Fifteen Marauders have scored goals this season and 14 have at least two goals. Additionally 21 Marauders have a goal or an assist.
 
NET GAINS
Zane Clausen and 
Caleb Cross, both in their second seasons at UMary, have split time in the net for the Marauders this season. Clausen has played seven games and owns a 4-2 record with a 2.32 goals against average and a 92.7 save percentage. Cross is 5-1 with a 2.73 GAA and a 90.6 SV%.
 
NEW
On a veteran team with 21 returning players, four new skaters have taken to the ice this season for the Marauders: defensemen 
John Lang and 
Amraj Gill and forwards 
Dain Sardelli and 
Isaac Flatley.  
 
SPECIALTY UNITS 
Last weekend saw both specialty units step forward. In Friday's win the Marauders killed off all six of the Buffaloes' power play opportunities while UMary was unable to score in three chances with a man advantage. In a reversal of roles, the Marauders went 3-for-6 on the power play in Saturday's 8-4 win over the Buffaloes while CU scored on 3-of-5 power play chances. For the season UMary is 4-for-21 on the power play and has allowed the opposition to score on just 4-of-19 power play chances.  
 
MARAUDERS PICKED 3RD IN MCH PRESEASON POLL
Midwest College Hockey coaches project the University of Mary to finish third this season in the seven-team league.
 
Defending league champion Minot State University tops the 2025-26 MCH Preseason Coaches' Poll, released September 24. The University of Jamestown is picked second, followed by UMary, Midland University, McKendree, Waldorf University and Iowa State University.
 
All seven teams will compete in the MCH conference tournament February 20-22 in Albert Lea, MN. The MCH Playoff champion will hoist the Lindsay Cup and earn a berth in the 2026 American Collegiate Hockey Association Men's Division 1 national championships set for March 12-17 in Maryland Heights, MO.
 
UMary opens its 12-game 2025-26 MCH schedule at Waldorf on Oct. 18-19 in Mason City, IA.
 
RANK AND FILE
In a schedule chock full of the top teams in the country, the Marauders play 27 games of their scheduled 38 contest against teams ranked in the Top 25 preseason poll. UMary faces #3 Minot State (5 games), #6 Jamestown (5), #9 Drury (2), #10 Utah (1), #11 Calvin (1), #15 Purdue-Northwestern (1), #18 Midland (4), #21 Arizona State (2), #21 Delaware (1), #23 Grand Valley State (1) and #25 Colorado (4).
 
2024-25 REWIND
The Marauders finished last season 23-15-0-0-0-0 overall and 22-15-0-0-0-0 against ACHA MD1 teams.
 
HISTORY LESSON
UMary, which won back-to-back ACHA Men's Division II national championships in 2020 and 2021, made the move up to MD1 for the 2022-23 season. Head Coach Dan Huntley has directed the incredibly successful UMary program since the Marauders first took to the ice in September 2018. Over the course of seven seasons UMary has fashioned a record of 239-56-9-11-2-1 (W-L-OTL-T-SOW-SOL), posting a winning season with 20 or more wins each year.
 
The Marauders made their second straight MD1 national tournament last spring and went 1-1, defeating the University of Pittsburgh 4-0 in the opening round before falling to #3 Ohio University 3-0. Throughout program history covering six national tournaments, the Marauders are 14-2-1-0-0-0 (W-L-OTL-T-SOW-SOL) in ACHA tournament games and has only two losses in regulation.  
 
HEITKAMP, GRONHOLZ, CUNNINGHAM LEAD VETERAN SQUAD
The Marauders return an experienced club as 21 of 25 players return from last season.
 
Michael Heitkamp leads the way for the Marauders returners. The two-way defenseman from Grand Rapids, MN, was a threat on both ends of the rink for UMary. In his second season with the Marauders and fourth overall in ACHA MD1, Heitkamp scored 15 goals and delivered 15 assists for 30 points to earn a spot on the 2024-25 ACHA MD1 All-Athletic 3
rd team. Heitkamp is the first UMary player to claim ACHA MD1 All-Athletic Status.
 
Heitkamp was also an All-Midwest College Hockey selection. Forward 
Joe Gronholz was the MCH Rookie of the Year and a 2
nd team All-MCH choice. Defenseman 
Dylan Cunningham and Gronholz were both named to the MCH All-Rookie team.
