BISMARCK, ND – A thrilling five-set match (21-25, 25-21, 27-25, 15-25, 15-10) saw the University of Mary volleyball team take down Minot State University.
The Marauders won the season series 2-0 over their in-state rivals, the Beavers. With this victory, UMary (6-14, 3-9 Northern Sun) has surpassed last year's conference win total of two.
The Marauders posted 59 kills on a .163 hitting percentage, while MSU (3-18, 1-11 NSIC) recorded 51 kills on a .126 attack percentage. UMary had 55 assists and five aces, while MSU had 51 assists and seven aces. The Marauders had ten blocks and the Beavers had 12.
The first set went back and forth with UMary holding an early 8-3 lead. MSU rallied back to take the set down 25-21.
The Marauders reversed their fortunes in the second set as they would come back from an early deficit to win 25-21 after two straight attacking errors by the Beavers.
The third set was a thriller that would see UMary come out on top 27-25. The Marauders trailed 25-24 but rallied off three straight points that included the set-winning kill by
Judith Burke on an assist by
Dani Highum.
MSU dominated the fourth set, winning 25-15.
UMary took a 5-0 lead in the fifth and final set due to three service aces by
Maddy Freed. The Marauders remained in control on the set as a kill by Freed on an assist by
Natalie Boehmer secured match point 15-10.

Judith Burke posted a career-high 19 kills to go along with 13 digs and three blocks.
Dani Highum had 14 kills, seven digs and three blocks.
Katie Bleeker recorded 23 digs.
Maddy Freed dished out 29 assists and had nine digs, four kills and four aces.
Holli Klettheimer had 10 kills and four blocks.
Myra Newman put up eight kills and two blocks.
Natalie Boehmer had 21 assists.
Gabby Caskey had four blocks and three kills.
