MASON CITY, IA – Scoring three or more goals in each period, #14 University of Mary crushed homestanding Waldorf University 10-1 to complete the weekend sweep of the Marauders first Midwest College Hockey series of the season.
Lyndon Orr scored a pair of goals for the second straight game,
David Loahr wrapped up a big weekend with two goals and
Hunter Mangan also found the net twice. Loahr had a goal and two assists in UMary's 7-3 win over Waldorf on Saturday.
The Marauders finished their 11-day five game road trip with four wins. UMary improves to 9-3-0-0-0-0 (W-L-OTL-T-SOW-SOL) overall, 8-3-0-0-0-0 against ACHA MD1 teams and 2-0-0-0-0-0 in MCH play. The Warriors are 4-6-0-0-0-0 overall and 0-2-0-0-0-0 in the MCH.
For the second straight game,
Alex Senf found the net first for the Marauders. Picking up a loose puck in the left circle, Senf skated into the top of the slot and unleashed a shot against the grain into the upper left corner of the net at the 11:21 mark for the game's opening goal.
Less than three minutes later UMary struck again. Holding the puck in the left circle,
Dain Sardelli spied
Isaac Flatley crashing the right side of the net. Sardelli lasered a perfectly-placed pass through the crease for Flatley to tap into the net for a 2-0 UMary lead.
At 3:56 Orr tacked on the Marauders third goal of the opening period. Carrying the puck into the offensive zone, Orr rocketed a shot from the inside of the right circle into the left side of the goal, sending UMary into the first intermission with a 3-0 advantage.
The goals kept coming in the second period with Loahr scoring the first two of UMary's four goals in the middle stanza. Filling the slot, Loahr took a centering pass from the left side of the goal from
Joe Gronholz and buried the puck at 11:54. At 3:14, Gronholz switched sides to feed Loahr from the right side of the net for his second goal of the game.
Just 25 seconds later Orr delivered the Marauders sixth goal of the game. Mangan sent the Marauders into the final intermission leading 7-0 when he tallied at 1:45, just 64 seconds after Orr's goal.
Waldorf broke through for the Warriors lone goal of the game at 15:12 of the final period. UMary closed out the game with goals by Sardelli,
Crae Dawson and Mangan.
Both teams were called for eight penalties for 16 minutes.
Zane Clausen was strong in net for UMary, making 39 saves in the game. Andy Tworkowski had 51 saves for the Warriors as the Marauders held a 61-40 edge in shots.
After scoring two goals Saturday, Senf added two assists to his goal on Sunday. Sardelli also had a goal and two assists and Gronholz posted two assists for a second straight game.
UMary next takes to the ice October 31, 2025, for a Halloween night game at #3 Minot State University. The Marauders then host #6 University of Jamestown on November 1.
