GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Despite
Nick Bradshaw's third goal in two days, the 14
th ranked University of Mary saw its 6-game win streak snapped in a 6-2 loss at #12 Calvin University. It was the first ever meeting between the Marauders and the Knights.
The Marauders are 7-3-0-0-0-0 (W-L-OTL-T-SOW-SOL) overall and 6-3-0-0-0-0 against ACHA MD1 teams. The Knights are 2-0-1-0-0-0.
In the 9
th straight game for UMary against a nationally ranked American College Hockey Association Men's Division 1 team, the loss was the first on the road this season after starting this 5-game road trip with a pair of wins, including a 3-2 win at Grand Valley State University the night before.
Calvin jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one period and scored again in the second to take a three-goal lead.
UMary jumped back into the fray when Bradshaw, who tallied twice against GVSU on Tuesday, continued displaying his hot hand by scoring at 15:21 with
Crae Dawson and
Derek Dropik providing the assists.
A scant 73 seconds later,
Michael Heitkamp took a feed from
Dain Sardelli and
John Lang to close UMary's deficit to 3-2 with the second intermission fast approaching.
Time didn't move as fast as UMary had hoped. With just 2:48 left in the 2
nd period, Krzystof Petryla gave Calvin its two-goal lead back. The Knights then scored both third period goals to salt away the win.
The Marauders, in the midst of playing five games on the road during an 11-day trip, finishes their tour of the Upper Midwest with a pair of games at Waldorf University in Mason City, IA, on Saturday and Sunday, October 18-19. The two-game series with the Warriors opens Midwest College Hockey play for the Marauders.
