Bradshaw ignites #14 Marauders efforts in 3-2 road win over #23 Lakers

ALLENDALE, MI – A pair of Nick Bradshaw goals in the first period ignited the 14th ranked University of Mary hockey team to a 3-2 road win over #23 Grand Valley State. The victory was the 6th straight for the Marauders, who have played eight straight games against nationally-ranked programs.
 
The Marauders improve to 7-2-0-0-0-0 (W-L-OTL-T-SOW-SOL) overall and 6-2-0-0-0-0 against ACHA MD1 teams. The Lakers are 4-2-1-0-0-0.
 
In the first-ever meeting between the Marauders and the Lakers, UMary jumped in front on the first goal of the night by Bradshaw at the 7:06 mark off an assist from John Lang. Less than four minutes later Bradshaw struck again, scoring his 4th goal of the season at 10:59 using an assist from Derek Dropik.
 
The Lakers scored the only goal of the second period to climb within 2-1.
 
UMary regained its two-goal lead at 4:46 of the third period when Alex Senf scored his 5th goal this season with help from David Loahr and Joe Gronholz. Just 124 seconds later the Lakers closed the gap to 3-2 on a short-handed goal to set up a tense final 13:10 of the game.
 
Caleb Cross and the Marauders defense ensured the lone goal lead stood up. For the game Cross stopped 23 of the 25 shots Grand Valley State fired on the UMary net. Taylor White stopped 19 of 22 shots for the Lakers.
 
Both teams finished 0-for-3 on the power play.
 
The Marauders next play at Calvin University in Grand Rapids, MI, on Wednesday, October 15. The midpoint in a 5-game road swing spanning 11 days, game time is 8:30 pm ET/7:30 pm CT.
