HAMMOND, IN – Playing on the road for the first time this season, the #14 University of Mary hockey team made themselves right at home in the Marauders first-ever meeting with #15 Purdue University Northwest.
Zane Clausen turned aside 30 shots for UMary and
Dain Sardelli posted a goal and an assist to lead the visiting Marauders efforts.
The Marauders improve to 6-2-0-0-0-0 (W-L-OTL-T-SOW-SOL) overall and 5-2-0-0-0-0 against ACHA MD1 teams. The Pride are 1-3-0-0-0-0.
After a scoreless first period, the Marauders took advantage of the Pride's lone penalty of the game to score a power play goal at 1:29 of the second period.
Michael Heitkamp scored just 12 seconds after UMary earned the man advantage opportunity.
Sardelli followed with a goal at 3:18 to double the Marauders advantage to 2-0. Following a goal by the Pride at 6:58, UMary held a 2-1 edge entering the third period.
It took less than three minutes into the final period for the Marauders regain a 2-goal lead when
Will Falconer found the net.
Clausen had a strong night in net for UMary, stopping all but one of the 31 shots he faced in the game. He turned aside nine shots in the first, 13 in the second and eight in the third.
Caleb Krill finished with 29 saves for Purdue Northwest.
UMary next plays at Grand Valley State University on Tuesday, October 14, and at Calvin University on Wednesday, October 15.
