BEMIDJI, MN – A dominant second-half performance sees the University of Mary women's basketball team (11-8, 8-7 NSIC) take down Bemidji State University (5-15, 3-13 NSIC) 69-51 on the road.
Ryleigh Wacha led the way with 15 points and seven rebounds, shooting 5-of-10 from the field.
Bergan Kinnebrew added 12 points, five rebounds and two steals.
Chloe Pfau scored nine points and dished out two assists.
Moriku Hakim came off the bench to provide eight points, seven rebounds and two steals.
The first quarter saw the Marauders jump out to an early 11-4 advantage before the Beavers went on an 8-0 run that cut the UMary lead to 13-12. The Marauders ended the second quarter on a 10-2 run to take a 31-25 lead going into halftime.
The UMary defense was dominant in the third quarter, holding the BSU offense to eight points on 2-of-10 shooting and forcing five turnovers. The Marauders outscored the Beavers 19-8 in the quarter to increase their lead to 50-33. UMary continued to play strong in the fourth quarter and cruised to a 69-51 win.
The Marauders shot 26-of-67 (38.8%) from the field and 5-of-22 (22.7%) from three, while the Beavers went 21-of-54 (38.9%) from the floor and 4-of-16 (25%) from behind the arc.
UMary shot 12-of-18 (66.7%) from the charity stripe, while BSU went 5-of-10 (50%) from the free-throw line. The Marauders held a big advantage in the turnover battle as they committed only six turnovers, while the Beavers gave the ball away 17 times.
UMary returns home on Saturday, February 1, to host the University of Minnesota Crookston at the McDowell Activity Center at 5:30 pm.
