MANDAN, ND – Unable to overcome an early deficit, the 12
th ranked University of Mary men's hockey team dropped a 6-1 decision to #1 Minot State University in the opener of a home and away weekend series with the Beavers.
The Marauders are now 19-9-0-0-0-0 (W-L-OTL-T-SOW-SOL) overall, 18-9-0-0-0-0 in ACHA MD1 play and 9-4-0-0-0-0 against Midwest College Hockey competition. The Beavers are 26-4-2-0-0-1 overall and 17-0-0-0-0-0 in MCH play.
This was the 5
th of six scheduled meetings between the Highway 83 rivals. The regular season matchups between the Marauders and the Beavers concludes in Minot, ND, with a 6 pm game on Sunday, January 26.
The Beavers scored just 1:43 into the game on a goal by Joey Moffatt. Reid Arnold doubled the lead for the visitors at 13:22 with a power play goal. Minot State added a pair of goals just 2:28 into the second period to build a 4-0 advantage.
Taking advantage of a power play opportunity, Jacob Murray got the Marauders on the board at 3:54 of the second period, taking advantage of assists by
Crae Dawson and
Derek Dropik.
Not done, the Beavers found the net two more times in the second to claim a commanding 6-1 edge.
The Marauders finished the game 1-for-6 on the power play. The Beavers converted two of five opportunities.
