CHESTERFIELD, MO – Picking the perfect time to score his first career goal for #14 University of Mary,
Dylan Thompson delivered the game-winning goal for the Marauders in the third period to lift UMary past West Chester University 2-1 on day two of the ACHA M1 Showcase.
In a tightly-contested game, the Marauders struck for the only goal of the first period, notched unassisted by
Hunter Mangan at 9:43.
West Chester answered with the lone goal of the second period when Gavin Tarity scored at 6:36 to send the game into the third period knotted 1-1.
Thompson took center stage in the third. The first year player from Castle Rock, CO, found the net at 6:22 to give UMary a 2-1 lead.
Will Falconer and
Palmer Sinclair picked up assists on the goal.
Caleb Cross and the UMary defense made sure the goal stood up for the Marauders. The first year goalkeeper turned aside four shots by West Chester in the third and 26 for the game.
The Marauders held a 38-26 edge in shots, including a 14-4 advantage in the decisive third period.
The Marauders improve to 18-8-0-0-0-0 (W-L-OTL-T-SOW-SOL) overall and 17-8-0-0-0-0 in ACHA MD1 play. West Chester is 16-5-0-0-0-1.
The weekend wraps up against the University of Central Oklahoma. Faceoff against the Bronchos is 1:30 pm on Sunday, January 18.
