CEDAR FALLS, IA – The #11 University of Mary wrestling team went 2-1 on day one of the NWCA National Duals. UMary opened with a 26-15 loss to #4 University of Central Oklahoma before returning to defeat #14 University of Central Missouri (22-14) and Tiffin University (30-20).

The Marauders record now stands at 3-3 overall and 1-2 in the Northern Sun.

Reece Barnhardt, Matthew Kaylor, Trae Thilmony and Luke Tweeton all went undefeated on the first day. UMary returns for day two of the NWCA National Duals to take on Grand Valley State University on Saturday, January 11, at 9 am.

OPENING ROUND | #4 Central Oklahoma 26    #11 University of Mary 15
UCO was victorious at 125 pounds, 141 pounds, 157 pounds, 165 pounds, 174 pounds and 184 pounds to win the dual 26-15.

#3 Reece Barnhardt put on an impressive performance at 133 pounds, defeating El Kirk by an 8-2 decision.

Trae Thilmony was stellar at 149 pounds as he earned an 8-0 major decision victory over #7 Dylan Brown.
 
Matthew Kaylor dominated at 197 pounds, winning via a 16-1 tech fall over Barrett Haemker.
 
The final match of the dual saw #4 Luke Tweeton win an exciting 4-1 decision in overtime after scoring a late takedown against Paul Sharp.

The Marauders rallied back to win four of their last five matches to defeat UCM 22-14.

The Mules jumped out to a 3-0 lead after #3 Jakason Burks defeated Mason Gutenberger by a 6-2 decision.
 
#3 Reece Barnhardt (133 pounds) picked up his second victory of the day via a 20-3 tech fall over #13 James Wright to give UMary a 5-3 lead. UCM took back the lead after a major decision victory at 141 pounds gave the Mules a 7-5 lead.
 
Trae Thilmony (149 pounds) continued his impressive performance at the NWCA National Duals by defeating Ayden Dolt by a 16-5 major decision to give the Marauders a 9-7 lead.
 
Following a UCM victory at 157 pounds, Kaden Renner grinded out a hard-fought victory at 165 pounds, winning by a 3-1 decision over Conner Johnston.
 
Leo Mushinsky extended the Marauders lead to 16-11 after he picked up his first victory of the season at 174 pounds by defeating Garrett Deason by a 12-1 major decision. #12 Damon Ashworth cut the lead to 16-14 after he defeated Dante Roggio by a 7-5 decision at 184 pounds.
 
The duo of Matthew Kaylor (197 pounds) and Luke Tweeton (285 pounds) closed the show for the Marauders. Kaylor defeated Brayden Dillow via a 4-0 decision at 197 pounds. Tweeton picked up his second overtime victory, defeating Torin Forsyth by a 4-1 decision.

Three pinfall victories and two forfeits would be the difference for the Marauders against TU, defeating the Dragons 30-20.
 
The dual opened at 125 pounds as #6 Anthony Aniciete defeated Mason Gutenberger by a 5-1 decision.
 
#3 Reece Barnhardt (133 pounds) improved to 3-0 on the day, pinning #4 Maximus Shore after 1:05 of action.
 
Gabe Mortenson (141 pounds) picked up another six points for the Marauders after he pinned Christopher Oleksiak at the 3:18 mark. The Dragons forfeited the 149-pound weight class to give UMary an 18-3 lead.
 
Following a TU victory at 157 pounds, Leo Mushinsky won his matchup at 165 pounds due to a medical forfeit.
 
#15 Jakob Hurley defeated Joey Mushinsky by a 7-1 decision at 174 pounds. Dante Roggio sealed a Marauders victory after he pinned David Davis at the 3:32 mark to give UMary a 30-12 lead.
 
The Dragons won at 197 pounds and 285 pounds to make the final score of the dual 30-20.
