Poor shooting sinks Marauders against the Vikings

SIOUX FALLS, SD – An uncharacteristically poor shooting performance saw the University of Mary women's basketball team (8-5, 5-4 NSIC) fall 61-52 to Augustana University (3-13, 1-9 NSIC).

The Marauders shot 18-of-80 (22.5%) from the field and 8-of-47 (17%) from behind the arc, while AU went 24-of-54 (42.6%) from the floor and 0-14 from three. The 47 threes taken by UMary set a new program record for most treys taken in a game in the NCAA era. The previous record was 44 against Oglala Lakota College in 2015.

Chloe Pfau recorded 13 points, eight rebounds and four steals. Ryleigh Wacha had 10 points, nine rebounds and two blocks. Emily Jaenke posted 13 points and Addison Rozell brought down ten rebounds.

The Marauders were active on the boards, recording 52 rebounds, with 26 of those coming on the offensive glass. UMary won the turnover battle 21-16 against AU.

The Marauders fell behind 16-8 in the first quarter to the Vikings. UMary cut the lead to six in the second quarter as the Marauders trailed AU 25-19 going into halftime.

The shooting struggles continued for the Marauders in the third quarter as the Vikings extended their lead to 40-33. UMary battled hard and got the lead down to five in the fourth quarter, but the comeback fell short, losing 61-52 to AU.

The Marauders travel to Wayne, NE, to compete against Wayne State College on Saturday, January 11, at 3:30 pm.
