5-game unbeaten streak snapped as Marauders fall 2-0 at #17 Minnesota State

MANKATO, MN – The University of Mary women's soccer 5-game unbeaten string came to a close as the Marauders dropped a 2-0 decision on the road to #17 Minnesota State University.

After allowing one goal in the season opener, UMary had posted five straight clean sheets. The Minnesota State game was the first time this season the Marauders gave up multiple goals in a contest and have now allowed three goals in seven matches.

UMary held a 12-5 edge in shots in the first half but it was the Mavericks who scored the lone goal. An impressive individual effort by the Mavericks Maddix Archer in the 27th minute gave the home team the only goal needed. Taking the ball just inside the midfield line, Archer maneuvered down the field into the top right side of the box before sending a low shot into the left side of the net.

The Mavericks sealed their win with a goal in the 51st minute.

UMary (4-2-1 overall, 2-1-1 NSIC) finished the day with a 15-12 edge in shots with both teams placing five shots on frame. All five shots on goal by the Marauders came in the first half. MSU (5-1-2, 4-0-0) had the only two corner kicks taken in the game.

Northern Sun Goalkeeper of the Week Molly Fischer made three saves for UMary. Olivia Gardner and Rachel Gensch had three shots each to pace the Marauders.

The Marauders next host Augustana on Sunday, October 6, for homecoming. The first of three straight home games, game time is 1 pm at the MDU Resources Community Bowl.
