Beck, Papierski lead Marauders efforts against Golden Eagles

CROOKSTON, MN – Carter Beck just missed hitting for the cycle in the opener and Krece Papierski delivered five hits in two games for the University of Mary baseball team as the Marauders suffered a pair of road losses to the University of Minnesota Crookston. The Golden Eagles claimed game one 11-4 before rallying for an 11-10 win in game two.
 
GAME ONE UMC 11 UMary 4
Freshman Carter Beck just missed hitting for the cycle after pounding out a double, triple and home run in the doubleheader opener. The outfielder scored once and drove in two.  
 
Krece Papierski also had three hits in game one, hitting a double and scoring a run.
 
Josh Walker hit a 2-run home run for UMary in the first stanza of the game to give the Marauders a quick lead. UMC immediately responded, scoring five times in the first inning and once in the third for a 6-2 lead. After Beck hit a solo home run in the top of the 4th inning, UMC homered three times in the bottom of the inning to grab a 10-3 advantage.
 
GAME 2 UMC 11 UMary 10
A fast start and a strong finish wasn't enough for the Marauders (22-23 overall, 18-17 Northern Sun) to earn a split of the Northern Sun doubleheader with the Golden Eagles (31-14, 25-10)
 
The Marauders grabbed an early lead with a 6-run second inning. Following a 2-run single by Cru Walker and a Kalem Haney RBI single, Krece Papierski hammered a 3-run home run to left center.
 
UMC scored the next 10 runs, plating two in the fourth, five in the fifth and three in the sixth to take a 10-6 lead.
 
UMary made a run at UMC, scoring three times in the eighth on a passed ball and a 2-run single by Haney to close within 10-9. UMC scored an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Noah Hull cracked his 13th home run in the ninth to tie his career-high and close UMary within a run before the Marauders stranded the tying run at second base.
 
Haney and Papierski finished with identical lines of two hits, three RBIs and one run scored apiece. Hull was 2-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI. Carter Beck scored twice. Dylan Edmands and Carter Shin both had two hits with Shin scoring twice.
 
Jake Hjelle scored three runs for UMC and Mitch Goodwin and Kobe Senn both drove in three runs.
 
The Marauders close out the regular season with three games at the University of Minnesota Duluth on Friday and Saturday, May 3-4.
