BISMARCK, ND –
Kalem Haney blasted a pair of home runs and added three doubles to spearhead a University of Mary baseball doubleheader sweep of Bemidji State University. The Marauders rallied to win the opener 10-7 before taking game two 19-9.
With their 6
th straight win the Marauders evened their season record at 20-20 and improved to 16-14 in Northern Sun play. UMary is one win behind Southwest Minnesota State University for 6
th in the NSIC standings. The Marauders host the Mustangs in a three-game set this weekend in a battle for playoff positioning. Bemidji State falls to 1-41 and 0-32.

Tanner Spencer earned his 91 career win with the Marauders to move into second place on the program's all-time coaching wins list, passing Brad Walsh (90 wins). Steve LeGrand is the all-time leader with 121 (1997-2001). In his fifth season at UMary, Spencer first joined the Marauders for an abbreviated 2020 season.
GAME 1 UMary 10 Bemidji State 7
Kalem Haney crushed a pair of home runs as the Marauders rallied for a 10-7 win. The Marauders leadoff hitter drove in four runs and scored twice as UMary overcame a pair of 4-run deficits.
The Beavers opened the scoring with four runs in the 3
rd inning. A 2-run home run by Haney and a solo shot by
Ben Prediger in the 4
th inning closed the gap to 4-3. Fighting in an effort to gain their first conference win of the season, the Beavers added three more runs in the 5
th to gain a 7-3 edge.
Taking advantage of a tough sun that played a part in two misplayed balls in left field for BSU, UMary exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the 5
th inning. Haney started the rally with a solo shot to left. Three hitters later
Noah Hull doubled in a run before a dropped fly ball in left and a Prediger ground out both scored runs for a 7-7 tie.
Daniel Martin broke the tie with a run-scoring single. After another misplay in left scored another UMary run, Haney capped the outburst with a double to left to score
Dylan Edmands for a 10-7 lead.
Mark Schommer made sure the lead held. The Marauders stopper pitched 2.1 scoreless inning to earn the win. The righthander struck out four and walked one.
Martin,
Josh Walker and
Krece Papierski all had two hits for UMary. Eight Marauders scored runs – with Edmands crossing the plate twice – and seven Marauders had hits.
Jach Munson homered for BSU, scored twice and drove in two runs. Ty Karger had a pair of hits and two RBIs.
GAME 2 UMary 19 BSU 9
The Marauders offense remained red hot to start game two, scoring five times in the first inning to take a lead that would never be relinquished. All nine starters for UMary had a hit and seven scored runs as the Marauders piled up 19 hits - including eight doubles and a home run – and seven stolen bases.
Jack Munson hit a home run for BSU in the top of the first before UMary retaliated with five in the bottom of the inning.

Kalem Haney to tie the game. An RBI double by
Dylan Edmands was followed by a 2-run single by
Bryce Leafgren. Isaac Peagors capped the scoring with a run-scoring double to left center.
BSU closed the gap to 5-3 with two runs in the second before UMary responded with six more runs in the 3
rd inning. The big blow was a 2-run
Carter Beck double for an 11-3 lead. Leafgren then led off the 4
th with a solo home run off the left field foul pole and Haney doubled home a second run for a 13-3 lead.
The Beavers exploded for six runs in the 5
th inning to pull within 13-9. It wouldn't be enough as the Marauders tacked on three in the home half of the 5
th, one in the sixth and two in the 7
th to close out the game early by the 10-run rule.
Making his Marauders debut,
Robert Egan pinch ran for Walker in the sixth and scored a run. The senior then closed out the game with an RBI single in his first at bat for UMary's final run of the game.
Haney finished game two 3-for-3 with two doubles, three runs scored, three RBIs and three stolen bases. He also walked twice and was hit by a pitch to reach base all six times at bat.
For the day Haney was 6-for-7 with two home runs, three doubles, five runs scored and seven RBIs.
Leafgren finished 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, four RBIs and four runs scored.
Dylan Edmands scored three times and drove in two runs while going 3-for-4 with a double.
Kyle Jameson gave the Marauders a fourth player with three hits. He had a double with three runs scored an RBI.
Noah Hull had two hits and scored three times.
Kayden Moriarty picked up the win after pitching the final 2.2 innings. He didn't allow a run, gave up two hits and no walks.
Ty Karger had a home run for BSU, scoring twice and driving in two runs. Jack Munson also hit a home run and scored twice.
UMary is next scheduled to host SMSU on Saturday and Sunday, April 27-28. Saturday is Senior Day with a doubleheader scheduled to start at 12 noon at Municipal Ballpark. Sunday's single 9-inning game starts at 12 noon also.
