Mischel amazes on defense as Marauders drop doubleheader to Golden Bears

BISMARCK, ND – The University of Mary softball team battled hard but came up short as the Marauders dropped their doubleheader (8-0, 4-1) to Concordia University, St. Paul.

Kelsey Mischel was the star of the day for UMary. Mischel made three spectacular catches out in left field, including robbing a two-run homer in the fourth inning of game two. The Bismarck, ND, native went 3-for-5 with one walk over the two games.

GAME 1 |CSP – 8, UMary - 0
CSP grabbed an early 1-0 lead after the first inning. A three-run homer by Alexis Monty busted the game open and gave the Golden Bears a 4-0 lead. CSP added one run in the fourth inning and three in the fifth to secure an 8-0 victory for the Golden Bears.

Kelsey Mischel recorded both of the Marauders hits as she went a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate. Emari Evans pitched one inning of relief and allowed zero runs on one hit.

GAME 2 |CSP – 4, UMary - 1
Francesca Villaneda put the Marauders on top in the bottom of the first inning after she roped a single down the left-field line to score Mckenzie Reinhardt.

CSP scored three runs in the top of the third and one run in the sixth inning to take a 4-1 lead. UMary had opportunities to score in the fourth and sixth innings but fell short.

In the fourth inning, Ariana Retuta singled up the middle but Jenel Mallari was thrown out at home by Clara Heislen. The sixth inning saw the Marauders load the bases but failed to capitalize. The Golden Bears closed the game out in the seventh inning and earned the 4-1 victory.

Hannah Chambers started the game and went three innings and allowed only one earned run on four hits. Nicole Eckhardt came on in relief in the fourth inning and pitched four innings, giving up one run on three hits.

UMary outhit CSP 10-7 in game two.
