DENVER, CO – An impressive start on the hill by
Paxton Miller paired with a two home run day by
Daniel Martin led the University of Mary to a 12-7 win at MSU Denver. Miller went seven innings and Martin contributed three of the Marauders 11 extra base hits.
This was the first win for the Marauders over the Roadrunners, who had won the previous five meetings, including all three last season at MSU Denver qualified for the NCAA tournament.
The Marauders (6-6) struck first as
Dylan Edmands cracked a 3-run home run, the first of five UMary round trippers of the day. Martin followed with a solo shot in the third before hitting a 2-run blast in the fifth to cap a 4-run inning and give the Marauders an 8-0 lead.
As the Marauders offense was heating up, Miller kept the Roadrunners (9-9) bats cold, keeping the home team off the board the first four innings. The senior righthander struck out six and allowed just one walk, six hits and three runs on his way to earning the win.
UMary extended its lead to 12-3 with a 4-run ninth inning.
Of the Marauders 12 hits, 11 went for extra bases.
