Hull, Marauders crack six home runs in 13-12 loss to Golden Bears

BRANDON, SD – The University of Mary belted six home runs in the final contest of a four game Northern Sun series but fell a run short of a series sweep in a 13-12 loss to Concordia-St. Paul. Noah Hull hit a pair of home runs to top the Marauders longball parade for a UMary squad that leads NCAA Division II in home runs per game.

UMary averages 2.36 home runs per game to lead the nation. The Marauders totaled 13 home runs in the four-game series with UMary winning the first three games.

With the wind blowing out to left field at over 20 miles per hour the Golden Bears opened the scoring with four runs in the top of the first inning. The Marauders battled back and eventually gained a 6-5 lead as Dylan Edmands drilled a 3-run shot in the third inning.

CSP (12-5 overall, 4-4 NSIC) regained its lead at 7-6. UMary forged back in front as Josh Walker hit a 2-run home run in the fourth inning for an 8-7 UMary lead. Carter Beck added a solo shot in the same inning before Cru Walker hit a solo home run in the fifth to move UMary ahead 10-7.

A 3-run home run for Mason Nadolny tied the game for CSP in the sixth. The Golden Bears then scored three more times in the 8th to claim a 13-10 lead. The Marauders made a final run in the ninth as Hull hit a 2-run home run but it wasn't enough for UMary (9-8, 5-3 NSIC).

Hull, a 2023 second team NSIC all-conference player, was 3-for-5 with two home runs, three runs scored and three RBIs.

Josh Walker also had three hits with a home run, a run scored and two RBIs. Edmands had two hits, a home run and drove in four. Cru Walks added a pair of hits and knocked in two. Beck scored twice and had two hits. Michael Polson scored twice.
