MANDAN, ND –
Braeden Zaste put on a show on Senior Day, scoring bookend goals to lead #10 University of Mary men's hockey to a 5-1 win over visiting Colorado State University. The goals were the first two of the season for the senior, one of 14 Marauders honored during the first intermission for their career contributions in their final seasons at UMary.
The Marauders improve to 23-9-0-0-1 (W-L-OTL-SOW-SOL). The Rams, who swept the Marauders in a series in Fort Collins, CO, earlier this season, slip to 15-11-3-0.
Zaste gave the Marauders the early lead, scoring at 5:29 of the first period.
Tanner Eskro doubled the UMary advantage with a power play goal at 3:31 of the second. After the Rams closed within one,
Luke Schleusner sent the Marauders into the second intermission with a 3-1 lead after scoring with 23 seconds remaining in the second.
Johnny Witzke needed just 34 seconds to light the lamp in the third period. Less than three minutes later Zaste sealed the UMary win with his second counter of the night.
Conan Hayton was strong in net for the Marauders, making 23 saves in the contest. Under constant pressure by the UMary attack, Colorado State netminder turned aside 38 of 43 shots.
Eskro and Witzke finished with a goal and two assists each.
Lucas Medeiros added two assists.
The Marauders and the Rams conclude their weekend series on Sunday, February 4, at 2 pm.
