MINOT, ND – With a national championship berth already locked in, the #10 University of Mary men's hockey team wrapped up their regular season schedule visiting #1 Minot State University. While UMary won the last matchup between the two Highway 83 rivals the end of January, it was Minot State who captured the last meeting between the two teams before the American Collegiate Hockey Association Men's Division 1 national tournament as the Beavers skated past the Marauders 7-0.
The Marauders, who will face West Chester in the opening round of the ACHA MD1 national tournament on March 7 in Maryland Heights, MO, slips to 25-13-0-0-1 (W-L-OTL-SOW-SOL) overall and a mark of 22-13-0-0-1 against ACHA MD1 foes. The Beavers, the #1 seed in the tournament, are 27-6-1-0.
UMary fell down 2-0 after the first period despite an impressive effort in net by
Kyle Hayden, who turned aside 13 of the 15 shots he faced in the opening session. The Beavers added three more goals in the second and two in the third.
Hayden finished with 20 total saves.
Conan Hayton added another 14 for UMary. Riley Wallace posted 17 for MSU.
The two teams combined for three penalties with Minot State finishing 1-for-2 on the power play.
