#9 Marauders claim 2nd in 1st MCH season, set to host conference tournament Feb. 16-18

JAMESTOWN, ND – With hopes for claiming the Midwest College Hockey regular season title and earning the top seed in the league tournament dashed following a 3-1 loss at #6 University of Jamestown in the final league game of the season, the #9 University of Mary now turns its sights towards a new goal – winning the MCH tournament on the Marauders home ice.
 
The #9 Marauders are 24-11-0-0-1 (W-L-OTL-SOW-SOL) overall and finish their inaugural season in the MCH 15-4-0-0-1 with 46 points for a second place finish. The #6 Jimmies are 23-11-0-0 overall win the MCH with 50 points on a record of 16-3-1-0-0.
 
UMary is the host for the 2024 Midwest College Hockey tournament, set for Friday through Sunday, February 16-18, at the Starion Sports Complex Schwan Cadillac Rink. The Jimmies are the #1 seed with the Marauders earning the #2 seed. Both the Marauders and the Jimmies earned a 1st round bye.
 
On Friday, February 16, the 4 pm game features the #4 seed Illinois State University vs. the #5 seed Midland University. The 7 pm game pits #3 seed McKendree vs. #6 seed Waldorf University.
 
The semifinals on Saturday, February 17 features #1 Jamestown against the Illinois State/Midland winner at 4 pm. The Marauders will face the victor of the McKendree/Waldorf contest at 7 pm.
 
The MCH championship game at 1 pm Sunday features the winners of the two semifinal games. The tournament champion earns an automatic berth to the 2024 American Collegiate Hockey Association Men's Division 1 national hockey tournament.

An electric goal by Isaiah Thomas gave the Marauders their first lead of the weekend. Picking up the puck at central ice, Thomas dashed down the right boards before cutting through the circle past Jimmies defenders into the slot. He unleashed a backhanded shot off the pipe and into the net for a 1-0 lead just 5:58 into the game.
 
The Jimmies tied the game late in the first period, intercepting a clearing attempt by the Marauders and immediately getting the puck to Jordan Baranesky in front of the net for the equalizer at 16:06.
 
Jamestown took a 2-1 lead on a power play goal at 11:58 of the second period on a long shot from the right point by Alek Erichuk.
 
Just 5:01 later the Jimmies grew their advantage to 3-1 when Jordan Kromm knocked in a loose puck in front of the Marauders goal into the net.
 
After just three penalties were whistled Friday in the Jimmies  5-1 road win, 11 penalties were called Saturday. UMary was cited seven times for 14 minutes while Jamestown had four penalties for eight minutes. The Jimmies were 1-for-6 on the power play. UMary was 0-for-3 with a man advantage.
 
Conan Hayton finished the night with 40 saves for UMary. Brandon Weare had 30 saves for Jamestown.
