ALBERT LEA, MN – A pair of first period goals by
Lyndon Orr combined with a smothering defensive effort carried the 15
th ranked University of Mary hockey team to a 3-0 road win over Waldorf University in Midwest College Hockey play.
The Marauders are 14-5-0-0-0-0 (W-L-OTL-T-SOW-SOL) overall and 7-2-0-0-0-0 in MCH competition. The Warriors are 4-11-0-0-0-0.
Friday's Marauders game at Waldorf was the 300
th contest in program history. Under the direction of head coach Dan Huntley, UMary is 231-47-9-10-2-1 since first taking to the ice September 15, 2018, in an 8-0 win over visiting North Dakota State.
A furious forecheck led to the Marauders opening goal. With UMary bottling up Waldorf in its own end, Orr picked up a loose puck along the near board in the left circle. Skating undefended to the middle of the slot, Orr ripped a shot into the net at the 9:06 mark of the first period to give the Marauders a 1-0 lead.
With time running out on the opening stanza and UMary on the power play, Orr slammed home the puck with three seconds left before intermission to send the Marauders into the first break leading 2-0.
Derek Dropik pushed UMary to a 3-0 lead at 9:41 of the second period when he scored off a feed from
Hunter Mangan. It was the second assist of the game for Mangan.

Joe Gronholz provided assists on the last two goals of the game.
UMary held the Waldorf to 12 shots in the game, four in each period.
Zane Clausen was perfect in net for the Marauders, turning away all 12 Warriors shots for a second straight shutout.
The Marauders outshot the Warriors 33-12 for the game. Both teams took four penalties for eight minutes. UMary was 1-for-3 on the power play while Waldorf was 0-for-3.
The weekend series wraps up with a 2 pm meeting on Saturday, December 7, between the Marauders and the Warriors.
