INDIANAPOLIS, IN – In the largest NCAA Division II wrestling tournament, #2
Reece Barnhardt claimed second place at the 45
th Midwest Classic to help lead the #16 University of Mary wrestling team to a 14
th place finish. Joining Barnhardt on the podium was
Sean Solis, who took sixth place at 141 pounds.
Barnhardt opened day two by taking down #5 James Anderson (Ouachita Baptist) in the quarterfinals by a 12-2 major decision. The Bismarck, ND, native advanced to the finals when he defeated #15 Maximus Shore (Tiffin) by a 7-4 decision. Bernhardt fell by an 8-2 decision to #9 Christian Davis (Lander) in the first-place match.
Solis kicked off day two by winning via an 18-3 tech fall over Niko Ferra (Seton Hill). He then defeated #14 Caleb Brooks (Glenville State) by a 5-4 decision. The Long Beach, CA, native picked up his third win of the day by winning a 4-1 decision over Braydon Mogle (Northern State). Solis fell in the consolation semifinals and his fifth-place match to #4 Ronan Schuelke (McKendree) and #2 Dylan Lucas (Central Oklahoma).
The Marauders return home to host #3 University of Wisconsin-Parkside on Friday, December 20, at 7 pm in the McDowell Activity Center.
