UMary men’s cross country finish 16th at NCAA Central Region Championship behind Hansen

JOPLIN, MO – The University of Mary men's cross country team capped off its year with a 16th-place finish at the NCAA Central Region Championship. The meet was hosted by Missouri Southern State University at the Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course. Junior Caleb Hansen paced the Marauders, placing 47th with a time of 31:49.71.

Behind Hansen was freshman Gideon Hammah (32:23.42) in 73rd. Sophomore Andrew Scheer (32:42.71) placed 89th. Junior transfer Raine Skjod (33:23.57) was 122nd and was followed by freshman Lance Bradley (33:36.12) in 130th to round out the team scoring.

It was a steady climb up the standings for UMary, who went from 23rd at the 2k checkpoint to 20th at the 5k mark, then finishing 16th after the full 10k. The team also showed improvement at regionals as a whole, moving up four spots from last year's 20th-place finish.

UMary was 4th among Northern Sun schools, trailing #20 Augustana University, MSU-Moorhead, and University of Minnesota-Duluth.

The Marauders are poised to make even more strides next season. With a roster that expanded from six members to 14 this year, all athletes currently on the team are eligible to return with no seniors currently in the program.
