RAPID CITY, SD – For a second straight game,
Ty Rogers set a personal best in scoring to lead the University of Mary men's basketball efforts in the opening game of the Dakota Challenge. Playing in a neutral site game against Black Hills State University, Rogers scored a career-high 22 points for the Marauders.
On Tuesday, Rogers scored 19 points as the Marauders opened Northern Sun play with a victory at Northern State University. The junior forward continued his strong Thanksgiving week play when established a new career-high against the Yellow Jackets. Despite his efforts, UMary dropped a 90-68 non-conference decision to BHSU.
Rogers, second on the Marauders in scoring at 11.7 points per game, connected on 7-of-9 shots overall and was 2-of-3 behind the arc.
Kevin McGaskey added 18 points for the Marauders, a career-best at UMary for the graduate transfer from Prairie View A&M.
Jaeton Hackley led the Yellow Jackets with 21 points, one of four BHSU players in double figures.
Down as many as 14 points in the first half, the Marauders twice closed within a possession. Rogers converted a BHSU turnover into a jumper in the paint to pull UMary within 51-48. He later drained a pair of free throws to get the Marauders within 64-61 with under eight minutes to play. A BHSU run soon followed to close down UMary's hopes for a second straight win.
The Marauders next face Dakota Classic host South Dakota Mines on Saturday, November 30, at 5 pm CT/4 pm MT. Mines opened the Dakota Classic with a 63-56 loss to Minot State University.
