Mason Phillips and
Mujeeb Rufai are the University of Mary representatives on the 2024 All-Northern Sun football team. This is the first time receiving the honor for both players.
One of the top pass catchers in the Norther Sun, Rufai earned second team honors at wide receiver. The senior caught 53 passes for 513 yards and three touchdowns in 2024, his second season at UMary. The native of Portland, OR, led the Marauders in all three categories. In the NSIC he ranks 7
th in receptions and 16
th in yards. In NCAA Division II Rufai ranks 48
th in receptions/game (4.8).
Rufai finishes his career with 118 catches for 1,082 yards and six touchdowns. He is tied for 10
th in UMary history for receptions.
Phillips, among the top defensive disrupters in the league, was voted by the conference coaches to the All-NSIC defensive second team as a linebacker. The junior from Gilbert, AZ, finished the season with 5.5 sacks while setting career-highs for tackles for loss (10.0) and tackles (54 total with 30 unassisted). Phillips also forced a pair of fumbles, recovered a fumble and blocked a kick. In four games this season he registered 2.0 tackles for loss. He wrapped up the regular season 6
th in the NSIC in tackles for loss and 8
th in sacks.
In his three seasons Phillips owns 14.0 sacks and 23.5 tackles for loss. He has cracked the top-15 all-time at UMary in tackles for loss and is closing in on 12
th place in sacks (16).
