BILLINGS, MT –
Cayden Redfield came off the bench to pace the University of Mary men's basketball team in scoring on day two of the D2CCA Tipoff Classic at the Trailhead. The junior from Hardin, MT, returned to his home state to score 16 points for the Marauders in an 86-64 loss to #RV St. Edward's in a neutral court game hosted by MSU Billings.
A transfer from United Tribes Technical and Community College just down the hill from UMary, Redfield drained three treys for UMary on the way to 16 points in his second game for the Marauders. He also added two rebounds, two assists and two assists in 21 minutes.
Four other Marauders also cracked double figures in points.
Kevin McGaskey hit three treys and scored 12 points.
Jeremiah Jones, after scoring 18 points on opening night, chipped in 11. The sophomore guard hit three treys and led the team with seven rebounds and five assists. Jones also had two steals.
Ty Rogers sank 5-of-8 shots and scored 11 points.
Xavier Lewis made 5-of-7 shots and scored 10 points. He added four rebounds, three assists and two steals.
The Marauders claimed a 29-25 first half lead on a trey by Redfield. St. Edward's battled back and entered intermission with a 42-37 lead. A Jones trey capped a 15-9 run early in the second half as UMary closed within 53-52. St. Edwards, who won 21 games last season and is earning votes in the preseason top 25 poll, gained control a short time later with a 14-0 run midway through the second half.
UMary hit 10-of-31 shots from behind the arc and shot 42.1% overall for the game. St. Edward's was 11-for-29 behind the arc, hit 47% of their shots and held a 43-31 edge in rebounds.
Blake Nielsen led St, Edward's in scoring with 21 points in 22 minutes.
The Marauders close out the Tipoff Classic on Sunday, November 3, against the University of Alaska Anchorage at 4 pm CST/3 pm MT.
