BISMARCK, ND – The University of Mary volleyball wrapped up their 2024 season in a hard-fought three-set defeat (25-15, 25-22, 25-23) to the University of Sioux Falls.
Before the match began, UMary (4-22, 2-16 Northern Sun) honored
Maddy Freed and
Kaia Sueker. Freed was celebrated for reaching 1,000 career assists, and Sueker was honored for becoming the Marauders' all-time digs leader. The Marshall, MN, native finishes her impressive career as a Marauder with 1,775 career digs.
The Marauders posted 32 kills on a .195 hitting percentage, while USF (15-11, 10-8 NSIC) had 49 kills on a .330 attack percentage. The Cougars recorded six blocks, and UMary had four blocks.
The first set opened with USF coming out on fire, winning the first 11 points. The Marauders were unable to recover as the Cougars won the set 25-15.
The second set was far more competitive as both teams exchanged leads late. UMary held a 21-20 lead, but USF went on a 5-1 run to win the set 25-22.
The Marauders were trailing 20-17 in the third set but rallied back to take a 23-21 lead.
Robi Binagi recorded five kills to help surge the Marauders in front over that span. The Cougars responded by winning the next four points to take down the set 25-23.
