MANDAN, ND – With "The Jug" now on the line in the season series between the University of Mary and the University of Jamestown, the visiting and 6^th ranked Jimmies jumped out to an early lead to down the #8 Marauders 4-2 in the debut game of "The Jug" series.
 
Located just 100 miles apart on I-94, UMary and Jamestown will present the winning team of the yearly series of games a traveling trophy, the Bridgeman Russell Company Jug, known simply as "The Jug".
 
The Marauders slip to 7-2-0-0-0 overall while the Jimmies improve to 8-2-0-0-0. This was a non-conference game between the two Midwest College Hockey members.    
 
The Jimmies opened the scoring just 4:15 into the game on an unassisted goal by Brad Fortin. The contest soon swung heavily towards Jamestown when the Jimmies converted the only two penalties called in the game – both on the Marauders – into power play goals to take a 3-0 lead at the end of the first period. Jamestown tacked on a second period goal for a 4-0 advantage.
 
The Marauders just missed getting on the scoreboard when Derek Dropik's shot was ruled to have crossed the goal line just after the horn sounded to end the second period.
 
UMary tallied twice in the third on goals by Michael Heitkamp at 3:02 and Jacob Murray with 1:47 left to play. The Marauders pushed hard to score again but Jimmies goalkeeper Brandon Weare kept UMary's attack at bay.
 
The Jimmies held a 36-33 edge in shots. UMary closed the gap with a 15-6 advantage in the final period.
 
The Marauders next visit Missouri State University on October 18-19 in Springfield, MO. UMary returns home to host Minot State University on October 26.
