FORT COLLINS, CO – A pair of third period goals by the home team sent the #7 University of Mary men's hockey team to a 2-0 loss to Colorado State University.
 
Despite a 44-28 advantage in shots the Marauders were unable to find the back of the net against the Rams in the middle game of three for UMary in the Centennial State and the first of two games against Colorado State.
 
The Marauders slip to 15-6-0-0-1 (W-L-OTL-SOW-SOL) overall. The Rams are 12-7-2-0.
 
Defense and the goaltenders dominated the first two periods. Kyle Haden had seven saves in the opening period and 13 more in the second for the Marauders. The Rams Sam Simon totaled 27 in the opening two stanzas.
 
Skating 4-on-4 in the third after both teams had received minor penalties 64 seconds apart, the Rams finally broke the scoreless tie. On an end to end rush for Colorado State, Hayden turned aside an initial shot by Ty Doan but Alex Latkovski knocked home the rebound for a 1-0 CSU lead.
 
The Rams salted the game away with 1:34 to play on an empty net goal.
 
Hayden finished the game with 26 saves. Simon had 44 saves.
 
Both teams were cited for three minor penalties and neither scored despite three power play opportunities apiece.
 
UMary and CSU wrap up the weekend at 1:30 pm CST/12:30 pm MST on Sunday, January 7, at the Edora Pool Ice Center (EPIC) in Fort Collins, CO.
