DENVER, CO –
Cameron Milewski was perfect between the pipes to lead visiting #7 University of Mary past Metropolitan State University of Denver 2-0 in the Marauders first game in three weeks.
Seth Cushing and
Garrett Freeman provided the scoring punch for UMary.
The Marauders improve to 15-5-0-0-1 (W-L-OTL-SOW-SOL) overall. The Roadrunners slip to 13-7.
In a matchup between the American Collegiate Hockey Association Men's Division I Marauders and the ACHA MD2 Roadrunners, UMary held a 43-29 edge in shots but committed the only two penalties of the night. However MSUD was unable to twice take advantage of having an extra skater.
The Marauders struck first just 4:25 into the game. Taking advantage of assists from
Tanner Eskro and
Isaiah Thomas, Cushing found the net for the 19
th time this season to give UMary a 1-0 lead.
It took until midway through the third period for the Marauders to score again when
Lukas Robinson set up Freeman for the goal.
Milewski turned aside 29 Roadrunner shots for his second shutout of the season. After opening with eight saves in the first period, the first year goaltender for UMary followed with 11 saves in the second and 10 in the third.
Dylan Romanow was strong in net for MSUD, making 41 saves in the game to keep the Roadrunners within striking distance. After turning aside 12 UMary shots in the first, he had 13 saves in the second period and 16 more in the third.
UMary next opens at two game set against the Colorado State University Rams (ACHA MD1, 11-9-2-0) on Saturday and Sunday, January 6-7, at the Edora Pool Ice Center (EPIC) in Fort Collins, CO. Game time Saturday is 8:45 pm CST/7:45 pm MST. The puck drops at 1:30 pm CST/12:30 pm MST on Sunday.
