MARSHALL, MN – It was a career night for Lexie Schneider as the University of Mary women's basketball team picked up a huge road win 83-72 over Southwest Minnesota State University.
The Marauders remain tied for 4
th in the Northern Sun standings while the Mustangs dropped from second to third place.
Schneider dropped a career-best 37 points on 13-of-21 shooting from the field and 11-of-16 from the free throw line. The Appleton, WI, native grabbed 12 rebounds and blocked one shot.
Mariah McKeever scored 16 points, going 5-of-12 from the field and 5-of-6 from the foul line.
Megan Zander dropped a double-double, scoring 10 points and bringing down 10 rebounds.
Ashton Kinnebrew earned her first start of the season and went perfect, shooting 2-of-2 from behind the arc and making her only free throw.
Moriku Hakim dropped seven points and grabbed four boards off the bench.
Both teams were evenly matched in the first half, as the Marauders held a 33-32 lead. UMary outscored the Mustangs 26-17 in the third quarter. The Marauders then shot 8-of-11 from the field in the fourth quarter to close out an 83-72 UMary victory.
UMary (13-8, 9-4 Northern Sun) shot 52.7% from the field and 4-of-12 from behind the arc. SMSU (12-7, 10-3 NSIC) shot 41.3% from the field and went 6-of-21 from three. The Marauders went 21-of-28 from the free throw line, while the Mustangs went 14-of-18 from the charity stripe. UMary won the rebounding battle 37-29
The Marauders travel to Sioux Falls, SD, to take on the University of Sioux Falls on Saturday, January, 27, at 3:30 pm.
